First why only 4 stars well it was our first visit, so my exuberance needs to be tempered by only having one item from the menu and one interaction with the staff. Impressions of our first visit It was a great experience. The ambiance is very welcoming and charming the music was a bit loud. The food and service, Jorge was our server and though he was busy made sure our drinks and chips were always full, was absolutely amazing though they do lack a liquor license. At first blush the menu can look expensive but worth once you see the portions. I have to say, I enjoyed every single bite of the meal I had which was the Mole Ranchero (while very good the Mole did not have the developed earthy undertone, I have had elsewhere but certainly none better in this state) and I did sneak some of my wife and daughter's fajitas and even a the side of Spanish rice was well cooked and even spiced. Yes, I know what you’re thinking it's just rice but how many times have you had Spanish rice that you would be untouched on your plate, well not this rice. I did not are for the refried beans found them to lack texture, but my wife and daughter did. Even the "homemade" tortilla chip where good and stout enough to hold up to a good dip and not get soggy in the nachos. Overall, it was a very enjoyable first visit and a decidedly homey and unhurried dinning experience. And while I can (yet) say this is absolute favorite restaurant I can say we will be making many return visits to sample the rest of the menu or just stick with the Mole ranchero If you have not been yet go you won’t be...
Read moreGood, but improvements could be made. We ordered takeout: Chips and salsa, spicy queso, guacamole dip, the Fajitas Texanas, and sopapillas. The appetizers were great. We loved the spicy queso and guacamole. We also really liked the salsa; it has a kick to it! For dinner, the fajitas, we ordered the single portion and felt there was plenty of meat. The toppings came with hot and cold items in the same container. Wish they hadn't because by the time I got home the cheese was melted. There also wasn't a lot of cheese included. Also if separated, it would have been easier to reheat the beans and rice. I'm not big on beans so I'm probably not the best person to judge, but I felt both the beans and the rice were tasteless and mushy. The lettuce that was included in my opinion should be romaine and not iceburg. Final item, the sopapillas: good, but not what I was expecting. The sopapillas I've had at other places were fried dough and were soft. The sopapillas here were basically fried tortillas which turned into chips with cinnamon sugar. They were tasty but $5 for one cut tortilla so 5 chips or $1 per chip? Felt kinda ripped off. Portion should be at least double for chips or...
Read moreFor a Fri night, didn't have to wait too long to get seated. Did have to watch the table seated after us enjoying their chips and salsa a good five minutes for getting any ourselves, though.
I thought the rice and beans were pretty bland, but my friends liked them. I liked the red sauce on the enchilada and tamale, and I like the cook on the relleno. A lot of place serve mushy, overcooked peppers, and this one still tasted like a pepper.
Taco was okay, not bad, just not great. The burrito was saltier than the other stuff. I also ordered a Chalupa, and despite not being Mexican, feel very confident that's not what I got. A flat round tortilla, with refried beans, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream on top. It wasn't good, and certainly wasn't worth $4.
They did a good job keeping up with drinks, but not so great with the alcohol. Not a good cocktail. Not really what was advertised or asked for.
Decor is alright, nothing that draws my eye and holds my attention. Lots of fluorescent light and lots of noise. Like sitting at a busy fast food place, no real effort on atmosphere.
Not a bad experience, per se, but certainly not anxious...
