I have never written a negative review, but had to this time. This used to be our favorite spot for date nights or celebrating with friends, but I am so sad to see that this restaurant has slowly gone downhill. And the last few visits really sealed the deal.
We had a group of 6 and sat in the sushi section, but both hibachi and sushi were ordered.
5 out of 6 people from the group ended up with food poisoning. My spouse felt ill within 24 hrs (vomiting, nausea, diarrhea) and I started having symptoms within 48 hrs (nausea, stomach cramps, diarrhea). Pretty much the same story for the rest of the group. Some even got fevers.
On top of that, the service and food were lacking. Our waitress was really sweet and friendly, but clearly overwhelmed as they seemed short-staffed. She was frequently forgetting our requests and orders. It took 30 minutes to finally get our hot sake after a couple of reminders, and it was tepid when we got it. We figured there was no point in reporting it since it took so much time to get it in the first place.
Sushi was delicious, but hibachi portions are smaller than they used to be. One of our friends ordered the filet mignon hibachi. A little later the waitress informed us that they were out of filet, so our friend ordered the steak and shrimp instead. 20 minutes later, someone brings out a dish saying it was filet. We explained that we were told they were out. He tells us that they ‘just got a delivery in.’
From the look and taste of it, I suspect that they just served regular steak but said it was filet and charged us for it. 10 minutes later her steak and shrimp come out and we have to explain again what's going on. They take the dish back. But when my friend gets the check, she was charged for both the filet and steak and shrimp dishes. We have to explain it again to the waitress.
All in all, we have unfortunately seen a huge decline in the quality of this restaurant. This last visit was such a disappointment. I worked in the restaurant industry (including a hibachi place) for many years and am always willing to be understanding, but this was just too many strikes for one night. We used to love going here, and would even drive the extra distance because we enjoyed the food and atmosphere here over the Ohana's on 82nd. I know that they are separate businesses and not affiliated with each other but we'll be going to 82nd next time unless things improve, which I really...
Read moreThis restaurant is usually very good and quick from the several times being here. But, my family and I were there a few days ago to celebrate my birthday. Well, the hostess we had ended up being our waitress. First of all, age mentioned that age was "faulty new" and only been there four almost 2wks. That was understandable, but... she still didn't know anything about the menu, as in what comes with what dish, what drinks they have and so on. She was so clueless that I just told my kids to not ask her anymore questions and just order what they wanted., because she kept going back and forth to ask simple questions. Then, she took one of my kids glasses for a refill, walks off then doesn't return, only to find out that she put my son's glass on the table behind us, with another family!!!! We waited an hour for our food, when a family that was there 30 min got there's first. So, we flagged down a different server and told them about the horrible service. We also asked for a different waiter. He immediately apologized and took over being our waiter for the rest of the night. Apparently, the first waitress had been "trying to train" several times!! When we finally got our food, we found out that one of my kids orders wasn't even placed! The manager then came to speak with us regarding the whole situation and to make up for it, he wanted to take care of the whole ticket, plus gave me and my kids free dessert. The food is always great, and this was the only time we've ever had horrible service here. I'm glad the more experienced waiters along with the manager know how to handle situations like this. I will probably be back, as looking as the service and staff are easy better...
Read more7/30/30 - birthday meal. Decent size crowd, had a short wait for hibachi grill table. Great cook with good personality. Food was cooked perfectly. They have added Tilapia to the fish option with salmon. No salad or shrimp appetizers during lunch and the portions are smaller than dinner. We are not sushi fans, but the sushi our table mates did look really good! We will definately be returning in the future!!
12/24/2022 - Christmas Day meal with the family. Surprisingly, the restaurant was not very busy and we arrived about 12:45 pm. The Good: We were able to sit at one of the grills and had a great waiter and cook!! Everything was cooked to order and the soup was fantastic. The Bad: too much ginger in the salad dressing which is normally my favorite - didn't finish it.
We came for lunch on Sunday for Fathers Day. Arrived about 1:30 pm to avoid some of the crowd. Be aware that at lunch, salad with ginger dressing and the shrimp appetizer DO NOT come with the meal!! This location also does not have catfish, but they do have salmon. Food was ok, the cook was not as personable as some of the ones we have had. He overcooked the steak, was supposed to be medium, came out more well done and chewy and my husband said the salmon was over cooked and dry. We normally go to the location on 82nd and slide, but this one is closer to our home. We love O'hana and will be back, but hope we get a...
