Rating dropped from 4, to 2, to 1. Today I ordered a side of hash browns to go and found some paper (I think it’s paper? Not 100% sure) mixed in. Long explanations of previous reviews below. Pros: Close to home Hash browns are AMAZING They are open later than other breakfast places in the area. Cons (in order): No online ordering yet (although somewhat understandable it's a huge turn off) Wait is massive and is probably why the item directly below this happened. Food was cold Presentation wasn't great I also didn't really like what I ordered but that's not their fault and was not taken into consideration when taking out the star. Once they start online ordering and the craziness dies down a bit. I will give them another shot with something else. ETA: Tried something else. The Cordon Bleu. What is it with these guys and butter?! The butter on the inside of the bun was literally 3 mm deep, and the butter on the outside of the bun was so thick, slippery, and gross. I don't mind a little bit to toast but there's no reason to immerse a pretzel roll in a vat of butter. The last item I ordered was similar. I ended up throwing the bun away and putting slices of bread on each side instead. I had also made a special, but simple, request and they managed to mess that up. I really, REALLY, wanted to like this place but I almost gagged over the amount of butter on both items. Hash browns are good, everything else will clog your arteries faster than a Big Mac. If you like having butter with a side of bread this is the place for you! Lowered the star rating as clearly it wasn't a one off.

Update August 2024: Wish I could give 4.5 stars! This time, we snuck out for brunch at The Toasted Yolk late on a Friday morning, and there was no wait. I had the Southwest Breakfast Bowl with poached eggs and it was delicious. I had a cappuccino instead of regular coffee this time was a bit more like a latte but delicious (and pretty) nonetheless. Husband had the Golden Waffles and he really liked them. Service was quick and friendly. -------- The Toasted Yolk was quite busy on a Saturday, but we were seated outside right away. It would have been a 45-min wait inside, and the sun plus outdoor heaters kept our focus on our experience and not on the windy January chill. Two of us ordered Benedicts (Arnolds here), and they accommodated us by splitting each order between plates (so we each got two different styles). Coffee wasn't great. Other than one person's food coming out when the rest of us were almost finished, service was good, food was pretty good, portions were filling, and prices were reasonable. They have quite a lot on the menu and I think it is definitely worth returning to try other items.

I’m calling this one: Should’ve known Arrived at 12 on a Sunday, that should’ve been my first clue. We got seated approximately 12:45. Food took about half an hour. I ordered the cilantro, shrimp salad, and half Reuben sandwich. This was decent, the shrimp definitely didn’t look like anything on the menu seasoning wise, but the greens were fresh and toppings were ok. The sandwich, was ok, but dry. Wife had the Reuben sandwich and wild rice soup. The sandwich was again pretty dry and looked tossed together. The soup was good. The pork chop breakfast Our son had was good, the eggs were overcooked. Our daughter had cold French toast, cold scrambled eggs that took an additional 10 minutes to come out. Our granddaughter had pancakes that were cold as well. Good thing our waitress was attentive and took good care of us, as we all know, she was unable to control the kitchen. We might try this again on a less traffic type of day, that might change the outcome, but overall, missed the mark for us.

Overall, I’m very pleased with toasted yolk’s food. It’s good quality, delicious and I’ve enjoyed it every time. However I am the type of diner that prefers to order takeout and eat food at home as opposed to in the restaurant, which is the only experience I have here to reflect on and unfortunately, I have to say this location needs some work.

The first time I ordered carry out here and I used the drive-through window, it was a Sunday morning and they were super busy and it took probably like 20 minutes to get help at the window. Which I totally understood because it was a Sunday morning and we all know how that is in Lubbock. However, today on a Wednesday, I decided to do the same thing and pick up an order at 1:30 PM when they’re not that busy and the experience was pretty much the same. I sat at the drive-through for a good 10 minutes. Watched several employees walk directly by the window and not offer to help me. I finally decided to call the restaurant and ask if someone would bring my order which was first answered by I presume the manager who immediately transferred me to another person without saying a word and then I had to explain I just wanted somebody to bring the food I had ordered to the drive-through. I’m not sure if they have sensors that detect when a vehicle pulls up or maybe they just watch for vehicles, but they need a better system for...

Food/service was ok. Felt fast food ish. Make sure to ask when being seated if that area is being closed within the next 10 minutes. We were seated in the area to the right of the receptionist which already had a few tables being used. A few minutes after taking our order, the rest of the tables emptied out, and they began flipping the chairs up on the tables. It was 1:30 pm.

Our food came out quickly, looked ok, then the sweeping of the floor began. We covered our food, seeing how dust and dirt is being kicked up around us, and asked the girl to wait until we were done. She apologized, and kept sweeping. Bizarre. We can only assume she was doing what she was told. I blame management for poor training for this.

Our waitress noticed, apologized, and said she'd have the manager stop by. 10 min later, he strolled over to see what was going on. I explained that closing a section, flipping up chairs, and sweeping isn't the way to make customers feel welcome. He basically shrugged, muttered sorry, and strolled off.

We paid and left, noticing the manager was at another table having lunch with one of his buddies. I almost felt bad that his meal was interrupted by actually being a (poor) manager and (not really) addressing the problem.

I know this is a new place, but if the owner relies on this type of training for his staff, this won't be the last unfavorable review...
