A brutal dining experience!
My wife and I arrived around 7:45pm on a Friday evening with no reservations. The hostess was kind enough to find us a table for 2. The server was initially very pleasant and helpful explaining the dining experience. I ordered a Manhattan to start. We ordered focaccia bread to start, a kale salad, lemon risotto, and NY strip to share. This was date night after all.
The bread came fairly quickly, followed shortly by the salad. The risotto took another 20 minutes. We saved some risotto thinking it would also be good with the steak. Then we waited.....and waited....and waited. Risotto turned cold, but I ate it anyway. 30 minutes passed and I began to look for our server as he had not checked in on us. I finally waived down another server and asked about our steak. He checked on it and told us it was "on the way". 45 minutes passed from the time we received our risotto until our steak arrived. By then it was 9:30 and we asked to have it boxed up to go.
We then waited again....and waited...credit card sitting on our table, and still no sign of our server. I finally got up and tracked down the hostess. I asked what happened to our server, and explained our evening. She initially seemed concerned, and insisted on notifying her manager. I said fine, but we really need to go. She then brough back our check and awkwardly said that we could either pay it, or we could speak to her manager. It was such a weird interaction....so weird that I just paid the $140 bill to get out of there. The manager then returned with our receipt, said thank you, and walked away. Bizarre, to say the least!
As we were leaving' I finally saw our server and I turned around to go and speak with him. When he saw me, he spun around and hustled the other way. As I headed out the door, the manager said "thank you, have a good evening". I stopped in my tracks, turned around, and said "what happened tonight"? She initially seemed confused about my question, until I walked her through our evening's timeline. She then said that she was recently been made aware of our situation, and that they had a new cook that they thought could handle things, but evidently not. I then reminded her that she had brought us our receipt, had not acknowledged our complaint, and that nobody in the entire restaurant had communicated to us that there were any issues or delays.
I then turned to the server (who had joined the conversation) and asked what happened to him, and that he's been MIA for almost an hour? No offer of water, no drink, no communication what soever. He simply shrugged his shoulders and said sorry. I said "now we're going home with a $35 steak that arrived 45 minutes after the last course at 9:30pm, that will likely be eaten as leftovers later in the weekend. They didn't even offer to take it off our bill.
I expressed the great disappointment in our meal, and explained the importance of communicating with their guests. I'm really not even sure who was more to blame for our experience; the server, the cook, the manager, or whoever employs them. One of the worst dining experiences we've had in a...
Read moreWe were absolutely amazed from the moment we stepped foot in this establishment. Upon arrival, we were escorted to our exclusive upstairs room where our culinary adventure began. The mussels surpassed all expectations, leaving us with a lingering satisfaction rarely experienced. While the focaccia bread was slightly moist, it still managed to delight our taste buds with its remarkable flavor. The calamari was expertly cooked, coated in a pristine batter and prepared to perfection.
The only minor setback was the sauce accompanying the calamari, which had a distinct peanut buttery taste. Personally, we would have preferred a marinara sauce to complement the dish. However, this small disappointment was quickly overshadowed by the delightful flavors of the rolled fettuccine, a dish meant to be savored by two. It was so delectable that we devoured it with great enthusiasm.
The sirloin steak was cooked precisely as requested, and the swordfish surprised us pleasantly. Considering we had recently returned from Croatia, we were prepared to be unimpressed by the swordfish. Yet, it proved to be an exceptional delight, prepared to perfection and boasting simple yet remarkable flavors.
Admittedly, the exterior of the property initially raised some doubts in our minds. We pondered whether it was worth taking a chance. Thankfully, the positive reviews we had read prior to making our reservation swayed us, and we are incredibly grateful for that. The quality, service, and variety of choices at this establishment left us utterly astounded. Every single dish we tried was an exquisite culinary experience.
If you're seeking an unforgettable dining experience, this place is an absolute must-try. Prepare to be amazed by the outstanding quality, impeccable service, and delectable...
Read moreThis is place is an absolute 10/10! ||My fiance and I came up for a night to explore Vermont and had the most amazing time at the Homestyle. Their dinner is well known in the area so we put our names in and there was an hour long wait, which was perfect because we went across the street to their sister property Main and Mountain and had awesome cocktails (definitely go here)!||When we came back we had the most amazing dinner (and we have had a lot of great food in our lives!) We ordered 3 entrees and even though we were full we ordered a 4th because we just wanted to try more dishes since they were THAT GOOD. The staff was so warm and welcoming and the owner Eliza, was the one who checked us in and was hostessing and managing the kitchen, etc. which speaks volumes of how much they care about this place and made it even more special. ||As for rooms, we got a queen room with shared bathroom. It was very clean and the bed was really comfy! At first I was hesitant to get a room with a shared bathroom but honestly it was great. I didn't wait at all to use the bathroom and the bathroom itself was very nice and had been renovated recently it looked like. You only share it with one other room so it was really no inconvenience at all. One thing I would say is that if someone is a sensitive sleeper, since it is an older house there is definitely a little bit of noise as older houses have, but we sleep with a white noise app anyway so it didn't bother us one bit! Just something to think about while you are packing to stay here! ||We can't wait to plan our next trip up here, hoping to come back in the winter for skiing at Okemo (which is conveniently 5 mins up the road and had some fun hiking...
