Yamato — Restaurant in Lynchburg

Wow! So...alot of reviews on Google these days are shill reviews posted by fake accounts owned by shady "web presence improver" firms that failing businesses pay to make them look good. But if you look at the accounts posting reviews for this business, they're all legit (e.g. have multiple reviews, some positive, some negative, and are clearly real people). There's a reason for that...

THIS PLACE IS FREAKING AWESOME! Everything about their whole operation is super professional. The customer service is STUPID good, the food is STUPID good, and their online ordering feature is STUPID easy and convenient. My wife and I don't live super close to them but we go out of our way to get food there because it's just that good, and what you get for the money is absolutely insane.

Their "Bento Box" deal is ridiculously high value. You get 3 pieces of SOLID sushi, a bowl of soup, a spring roll, and your main entree...for like, 7-8$. I usually get the teriyaki shrimp which can be very hit or miss at most places, but they cook it to perfection here and the shrimp is good quality. Their sauce is absolutely perfect. GO HERE NOW. Do not go here! We had a coupon so we figured we would give it a shot. I should have trusted my gut instinct after seeing the run down building on Google Maps. We ordered hibachi filet mignon and chicken.

The chicken was a very stringy and translucent texture, with no flavoring. It was like taking a bite of raw chicken with no char. The steak was cooked properly but had a squishing feeling about it that made me feel uncomfortable eating it. NO SEASONING AT ALL which made the steak taste like wet dog. The Yum Yum sauce is a cup of mayonnaise with a couple flakes of paprika. The sauce is totally unacceptable and disgusting. I cannot believe we just spent this type of money here. I would rather eat at McDonald's. I will never be back here. There are so many better options in Lynchburg for the same price. SAWA, Kotos, Wasabi, and Kenko are all much better quality for your money. I can't believe what I just received from this place. I gave Yamato a try after learning the hard way that Osaka (right beside Yamato) is no longer any good at all. Night and day difference for the service and quality of the food. Not to mention it's not run down and dirty like Osaka.

If you are craving Hibachi and want awesome service and great food but have the choice of Yamato or Osaka Express, trust me on this and pick Yamato every time. Delicious, affordable and clean. It's definitely a take out option over dine in ONLY because it's small- it was an ice cream parlor years ago called Billy Joes- but either way you'll love the food and nice people at Yamato. They may be side by side on Fort Avenue (literally), and serve similar menus, but there's no comparison to be made when it comes to the service and quality of Yamato that Osaka used to have, but no longer.

Pick Yamato, trust me on this, especially if you're from out of town and get one meal while here, don't waste...
