First time trying this place and it was interesting. We ordered the chicken kabab platter with fries and the jerk chicken platter with rice and peas. The chicken kabab was nowhere close to what a kabab should be. It was just chopped chicken placed in a container with some pita and fries (frozen ones from a bag). Fries made with freshly cut potatoes have a different texture and isn't devoid of flavor. Kabab is supposed to be skewered and grilled. This wasnt. Anyhow, as someone born and raised in the Caribbean, I like good rice and peas. This rice and pea, however, was just ok. The jerk chicken had flavour but it wasn't spicy as the authentic variety should be, which is understandable when you are catering to different palates. The steam veggies was bland. Based on reading other reviews and seeing the replies, I am not sure the owners consider these reviews as beneficial. I probably should have read the reviews before I purchased. How can you advertise yourself as Mediterranean and not have Baklava? That's one of the most popular Mediterranean dishes. My Turkish friend would be livid. With that said I can't give them a 1 but can't give them higher than a 2. My advice would be don't be a Jack of all trades and a master of none. Work on either producing great Caribbean food OR "Mediterranean" food. Trying to do both...
Read moreI recently ordered takeout from Lyndhurst Jerk & Gyro spot, hoping to satisfy a craving for oxtails. The spot had the highest rating on Google in my area, so I expected a great meal. Unfortunately, the experience was incredibly disappointing.
First, I ordered the oxtail platter with fries and steamed cabbage. The oxtail was severely lacking in any sort of flavor, and the steamed cabbage was incredibly bland. It might have been among the worst oxtails I've ever had, which was shocking given the high rating of the place.
I also got two jerk chicken platters with rice & beans and fried plantains. The jerk chicken was no better. It had no spice or hint of the bold jerk seasoning that defines good jerk chicken. This was among the worst jerk chicken dishes I've ever had.
The disappointment continued with the Jamaican beef patties. They were clearly store-bought and not made at the location, lacking the freshness and flavor expected from homemade patties.
The desserts were similarly terrible. The baklava was dry and boxed, lacking any semblance of freshness. The sweets were overtly sweetened, and the carrot cake was pre-packaged and overly sweet.
Overall, this was a terrible experience. I won’t be recommending this place to others, nor will I...
Read moreThe food is insipid. Doesn't taste as if Jamaicans made this. Jamaicans know better than to mess up oxtail. This had absolutely no seasoning or flavor. Just plain insipid. I couldn't even finish it. The oxtail tastes as if it needs to be back on the stove. Serious waste of money. I tried finishing it but couldnt. It went in the trash where it belonged. Never again
Update response to owner: There is no way a Jamaican made this dish. There was not even a hint of ketchup in it. The gravy was watery and the butter bean looked as if they were thrown in as an after thought instead of cooked in with the oxtail to gather its flavor. There was fat left on the oxtail as well. Any seasoned Jamaican knows better even if they don't know how to cook. Please stop misrepresenting my culture because I take that as a...
