The Garden State is hailed as one of the most diverse states when it comes to food, hosting some of the best Mexican restaurants on the East Coast. Whether one desires a quick taco or a full-course meal, my friends and I we’re craving rich and bold tastes from Mexico and decided on this family-owned establishment for an early Cinco de Mayo dinner. The reservation was easily made by calling Mariachi Grill, located on Ridge Road in Lyndhurst.

Upon arrival at this popular spot to locals, with its cozy and casual interior decked out in traditional Mexican vibes, we were greeted by the staff and immediately got a table by the entrance, but they also have outdoor dining, weather permitting.

The menu selection is much smaller than at other restaurants.

We decided on the Cheese Enchiladas, Beef Enchiladas, California Burrito, Beef Burrito, Chicken Fries with Fries, and Shrimp Fajitas. Some meals are accompanied with a small portion of rice and black beans.

Complimentary house chips and salsa started our meal. As the restaurant is working on their liquor license, it’s BYOB. One can bring your own tequila or wine, and the staff will mix it with their sangria or margarita mixes. We washed our meal down with a pitcher of sangria.

The presentation was very good. The food was made incredibly fresh, well seasoned, deliciously tasty, and generous. The price was very reasonable for the area. Our server Lisa with her outgoing personality and her desire to make our visit enjoyable, which we didn’t feel rushed.

First of all, they have Netflix. That's a whole star right there. I don't know if this happens all the time, but we got hot, fresh chips. THAT is a whole star right there my friends. The salsa was not bottled; it was fresh and delicious. That warrants a half star only because we really prefer spicy. However, my children were able to eat it so FULL STAR! Let's move on. The tacos, my people, are what you should order when you want tacos. I'm not being facetious here. Certain chain restaurants who shall not be named ain't got sh!t on this place. Lastly, I would like to expound on the excellent Camarones a la Mexicano. The sauce, citrus and sublime. The camarones, fresh, cooked to perfection. The Churrasco was cooked as requested, seasoned well and "very good", as specified by my less poetic husband. In summation, I will say that we have visited 5 different Mexican restaurants in one day once, only to be refused service in all of them. Updates: they raised their prices here and changed the plates to make the portions smaller. In addition they must have got a new chef because when I asked to get a burrito or quesadilla vegan with just veggies and rice they gave me a hard time. Until I was about to leave the manager said wait and they made it vegan. That’s discriminating against people with dietary restrictions. Customers should be able to remove cheese and meat if they want to.

I was very pleased with my experience here. I got the vegetarian enchiladas with verde sauce and it was so flavorful and 2 meals worth. Every meal also comes with rice and beans and chips. I am happy with the prices here. Most Mexican restaurants in the area tend to eventually raise prices because of popularity, so I hope this one doesn't do that anytime soon.
