Disappointing First Visit Despite Beautiful Ambience I made reservations in advance, expecting the place to be busy. The gentleman who answered the phone was very pleasant and confirmed a 6 PM seating for four. The location is in a strip mall, but don’t let that fool you — the entrance is quite striking, with a beautiful black door setting the tone. Inside, the decor is impressive: black diamond point booths, high-top tables, black and red accents, and chandeliers that give the space a dark, moody Latin vibe. It’s clear a lot of thought and care went into the design. We were surprised to find we were the only patrons there. A scantly dressed cocktail waitress, who appeared to be in the middle of her dinner, politely motioned us to our reserved table. She asked if we’d like drinks — I asked for a cocktail menu, but there wasn’t one. Same with the food menu — instead, we were directed to scan a QR code on the table. The waitress didn’t speak English, but she was kind and tried her best to communicate. We ordered drinks, and she returned to her meal. Shortly after, three other waitresses arrived and also began eating. After about 15 minutes, we asked if we could place a food order. We were told (again, very politely and with some language barriers) that the kitchen, which normally opens at 5 PM, wouldn’t open until 8 PM that night. This was frustrating — we had made early reservations assuming both drinks and food would be available, especially on a Saturday night. We had come for drinks and tapas, and left after just the drinks — still hungry and confused. It’s a beautiful space with potential, and the staff were genuinely trying, but the lack of communication, menu availability, and unexpected kitchen hours made for a disappointing...
Read more⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3/5) Review – Populus, Lynn MA
Populus is a really nice spot to hang out — the vibe is on point. Good music, cool atmosphere, and the setup has a lot of potential to become a go-to place for locals. You can tell there’s room to grow and really make it something special in the area.
That said, here’s my five cents: Management should put a bit more focus on staff training. Customer experience should come first, and avoiding unnecessary drama or tension goes a long way in keeping the vibe positive. A little improvement on the service side could really elevate the place and help attract more of the community.
Overall, it’s a good hangout spot with a solid vibe — just hoping to see the experience get even better...
