Mr. Submarine — Restaurant in Lyons Township

Mr. Sub has always been my favorite! Whenever people ask me why, I can never quite put my finger on it—I just say it’s simply the best. Over the years, I’ve rarely lived close enough to make it a regular stop, but it’s always been worth the drive.

When I was pregnant with my son 35 years ago, I craved submarine sandwiches constantly. Back then, I’d make the trip from Woodridge out to the Berwyn/Cicero or Brookfield locations just to satisfy that craving.

These days, if I’m anywhere near a Mr Submarine, I make it a point to stop. After all this time, my order hasn’t changed: a King size Mr. Sub sandwich (I save the other 1/2 for lunch the next day). The only difference now is I’ve added the garlic-parm fries to the mix—they’re so good we usually eat them in the car on the way back home to Sycamore.

Always a favorite when I’m in town! Best subs around! I’ve been going to this location for years and years. It’s always consistent in the taste and quality. However, I want to give an extra shout out; long over due.

My father passed away in November. Someone who was supposed to handle the food, dropped the ball and our guests were going to be waiting at least an hour for the food to arrive. In a pinch, I walked in and asked for 30 subs, cut in 3rds and a ton of chips. They were SO kind and helpful, given the difficult and unexpected situation we were in and could not have been more helpful and accommodating! They saved the day! We walked in with all the subs and people devoured them and raved about how delicious they were! It was a perfect food to tide everyone over until the main meal arrived. I have gone here a few times in the last couple of months. They have gotten the order correct once. Workers constantly joking around and there is a miscommunication between where I give the order to how I receive my order. Slow down and take the order correctly then joke around after your job is complete.

Make sure to check your order is right before you leave because if you order no cheese, baked lays or a diet coke I bet you will get cheese, regular lays and a regular coke. When you correct them you will get a response “well thats what everyone usually gets”. Not sure what everyone else’s order has to do with mine but I can see how that makes sense to them (sarcasm).
