Some time ago, my friends and I from Bow Creek Ranch took a brief business trip near Lyons, Kansas, and chose to dine at the County Seat Bar & Grill.

Lyons, Kansas, the county seat of Rice County, is situated approximately 30 miles east of Great Bend on Highway 56, and has a population of roughly 3,400. It's a small town that one might not encounter unless you were lost or going there on purpose. We had heard positive reviews of the County Seat Bar & Grill, so we decided to stop in and give em a try.

As we pulled into the Town Square we noticed the Clock Tower that resembled the one from the movie Back to the Future, You Don't See county seats much like this unless traveling off the beaten path. There is plenty of off street parking so after a long day of driving it was nice to get a parking spot close by on a Friday evening.

The establishment offered ample seating, with a row booths on one side and tables on the other. We opted for a small alcove near the front window. It maintained the charm of its high tin ceilings and exposed brick walls, complemented by industrial-style elements.

We were promptly seated and provided with menus and drinks. After reviewing the menu, we selected the pork belly burnt ends and dirty fries as appetizers.

The caramelized, smoked pork belly cubes, served with their house-made honey barbecue and brown sugar sauce, were a delightful treat after our journey, and the dirty fries were substantial enough to almost constitute a meal in themselves.

Doug ordered the original cheeseburger with American cheese, ketchup, mustard, pickles, onions, and crinkle-cut fries. Stephanie chose the loaded macaroni and cheese, with crispy chicken and bacon bits as her meat selection. I selected the blackened catfish with a cucumber salad, fresh corn on the cob, and a dinner roll. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and the price was reasonable. We are already planning a return trip.

If you are ever in central Kansas, near Highway 56 east of Great Bend or Highway 14 north of Hutchinson, please stop by and...

I would not bother with them again. Did a phone order for take out. Was informed they no longer have the surf n turf on their menu but would have all the makings to do it. I proceeded to make the order and was told a total. Then my husband went to pick it up and was charge 10 bucks more than I was quoted. We didn't get half our order either. When my husband got home (live 15 miles away) I find these issues and called. A female answered and immediately handed the phone to the male who took my order. I explained what my issues were and he was very curt to say the least. Stated he forgot the additional cost of the shrimp on the meals and the cook forgot the additional items. The cook comment was after he tried telling me the salad is one of the sides offered. Yet when placing the order he said salad and two sides. I reminded him of what he said and he got very touchy and rude about it. Then tried to continue to blame the cook who was apparently the only one working. My husband was eager to get the steak because it was his birthday and we don't get to enjoy steak very much. He ate about 3 bites and had to stop. They overseasoned the steak and macaroni and cheese. He is really disappointed and so am I. Menu needs updated. Food was over seasoned and overcooked, rude employee and lousy...

Drove 30+ minutes because the reviews raved about this place. Got there, walked in, looked around for any please wait to be seated or seat yourself signs, seeing neither we sat ourselves by 1 other table that currently had a couple sat at it. The waitress helping the table next to us looked at us and went to the other server, who then nodded and went about her business to another table. We continued to wait as the servers continued to ignore us. The server waiting on the table next to us walked right by us several times and did not say a single word. The second server made a comment to the bartender who then glared at us and turned the other direction. The server waiting on the table next to us walked by, as my significant other asked if we did something wrong she continued to walk off. We got up to leave and the table next to us stated that the wait staff is “f*|£ing worthless”. We won’t be back, which is disappointing as we like to try local places, but the staffing here needs help with...

Very nice, very clean, great service bar & grill! We stopped for the first time and tried it as we were passing thru town. They were busy but Our server was very attentive and took care of our table with great detail. The menu is very diverse and has a lot to choose from. We tried the homemade pork rings as an app and they were delicious. They come with a spicy ranch and a regular ranch.

This is the second time we’ve eaten here. Nice little spot to eat. The entrees we ordered were good with quantity and quality. Our appetizers were a little disappointing and sparse for the price. Overall good experience, would eat there again, just skipping the apps.
