A few weeks ago I made it over to Mooyah for the first time with my teenage son for a little 1:1 time. It was slow when we arrived and we took our time trying to decipher what we'd like to have. River was at the register and offered a small printed menu which was nice and we both selected our choices and ordered. We had a pretty simple order of 2 different burgers, a shareable fry, and an order of green chili queso.
After ordering we found a nice place to sit and chat while we waited on our food. The food came out relatively quickly and was hot, but we were missing the queso. I realized it after the food was delivered and just went up and mentioned it at the counter. Again, River was friendly and accommodating and they immediately brought it to us.
River checked on us about mid-point through our meal which I greatly appreciated and as we wrapped up, I sent my son up to go order himself a shake as well.
We both had a great experience and about 2 weeks later I returned for another visit with my wife. We also had a nearly identical order to that of my son and again, River was at the counter offering advice, suggestions, and was just a friendly and welcoming face while we finished making our decisions. This time through we also took advantage of a bonus through the app and it was quick and painless to use.
On this order our food came out relatively quickly again and was fresh and delicious.
On the food vs value side of things, these are made to order burgers and fresh cut fries. The burgers are more of a smash style burger so they are super substantial, but they are tasty. My wife ordered the burger that's currently available as a special on a pretzel roll and we did note that the roll is much smaller and in general it just felt like a smaller burger than others we had gotten previously and mine on this visit. The shareable fry is quite large and a great value for the money. The queso, while ok, does feel priced a bit high at more than half the cost of the shareable fry for a small soufflé cup of queso. I would likely get it again for the taste, but it won't be an every time purchase due to the size vs cost. The burgers are delicious and fresh, but they aren't inexpensive. Not terribly out of line for what I would expect from a similar type of place.
The space was clean and the atmosphere was generally nice. The real standout however, on both visits was River. Having excellent staff who are friendly and care are seemingly rare and can make or break a location and experience. In both of the above experiences I had tasty food that was slightly higher in cost than I would normally look to pay for a burger and fries, but I was happy to interact with someone who clearly cared about their job and treated us like welcome guests.
Looking forward to stopping by for a quick bite again...
Read moreStopped here while on vacation with family. Back home I've had a few females recommend this as the best burger chain back home in Louisiana....
Id compare this to five guys and Chick-fil-A tbh. I see alot of the same slogans about fresh never frozen beef, fresh fries and quality ingredients.
I believe it but the tastes are not there. I got the loaded shareable fries and the Diablo burger. With a shake. The burger which should clearly be the highlight was mid for me unfortunately. It was definitely not bad but lacked the definitive bite. Felt more like an avg homecooked burger vs like wow can't wait to go out to get one. The fries were good but only while fresh... Once the cheese gets hard which there isn't that much of it isn't the same ordeal. The shake however was one of the best ones I've had from multiple chains maybe even rivaling sonics. The tea they had missed the mark for me. Probably healthier but definitely not more palatable.
The presentation of the food was good though. The pricing in my opinion is on par with five guys but I can see why five guys stays pretty packed and this restaurant was empty at 5pm.
Staff was definitely friendly. Restaurant clean. They messed up my order and didn't give my child's strips the fries with it and made the order to go vs dine in. You will also wait a bit longer than a five guys wait for food. The manager or operator came out when some traffic did trickle in to ask people how they were doing which got an up tick in staff rating bc that's rare.
Unfortunately for the price point and taste I don't think this is the place. Maybe I had the wrong burger I may give it another chance back home but I'd honestly perfer to go five guys or a...
Read moreMy suggestion is wait until they work the kinks out as a new restaurant. Four of us went there on dinner break and got orders to go. All four orders had issues.
Started with my order, when I was charged for a combo even though I didn’t order one. Customer service wise they really stepped up here. Instead of refunding the $2 and change that was the difference in price from what I ordered when I pointed this out, they refunded my entire meal.
The other pros: their queso is really good person said it was good and tasty (but more like wa loaded side salad than dinner)
The issues we encountered: my chocolate chip cookie was way over cooked. Harder than a Chips Ahoy. my house made chips were also overcooked. Couldn’t finish them because about a quarter were just short of burnt. two other orders in the group had their sides swapped. Person who ordered sweet potato fries got regular and vice versa one burger was missing the bacon, which was listed on the ticket salad order had two things of barbecue sauce with it instead of vinaigrette took a little over 20 minutes for the first order to come out, when they didn’t seem that busy
Earlier pro should have been the salad was very tasty, but size wise it is like a loaded side salad.
Until they get their process worked out, we’ll probably stick with Wendy’s up the road when we’re in the mood...
