The Anchor — Restaurant in Machias

We went for dinner. It's called a restaurant and they have tables and serve food, but this establishment has more of a bar vibe.

While the owner and staff were friendly, service was excruciatingly slow and inattentive. Our server spent the majority of her time in the bar room and made infrequent appearances in the room we were seated in. It took over an hour to get our food. Folks at three tables (probably regulars) who were seated after us got food before we did. It shouldn't take that long for hamburgers and a hot sandwich. After finishing, I had to track our server down in the bar to get our check because she hadn't come back around.

We have no complaints about the food that was eventually served. It was good, and the portions were huge. The prices weren't terrible either. It was really the service that tanked...

I'll be honest... we weren't expecting much when we walked inside. The atmosphere gives local dive bar vibes. There was only one server/bartender who was serving the entire restaurant. She did an amazing job keeping on top of everything. The food was pretty typical bar fare. I ordered a steak bomb (cheesesteak with onions, peppers, and mushrooms). While I asked for no mushrooms, it came with them anyway, but I picked them off because, ewww. My husband enjoyed his meatball sub with fries. Our son ordered a cheeseburger and thought it was "ok." The prices were reasonable. There are a few pool tables in the place, and most of them...

Spent the night in machias with family. We 're here for lunch and was invited back for a surprise birthday for one of the band members. We came back and throughout the afternoon we spent about 300 dollars (lunch, then cocktails later). One of our members had to go do and errand and asked the if He could get back in, the guy told him he had to pay a 10 dollar cover charge to get back in. They missed out on any more of our money. We gave the waitress a nice tip ,sadly we all left. If we ever stay in machias again we will definitely come back. A lot of nice folks...
