S&S Cafeterias - Riverside Dr. — Restaurant in Macon

Wow. This place... Is different! I've never been to one of these s&s cafes before. I went because it was HIGHLY HIGHLY spoken of. I mean, these friends of mine will drive OUT OF THEIR WAY just to eat at this food establishment!

So I went! And I was pleasantly surprised but also unfortunately disappointed.

I rate tjis place a 3 star. It's likely because I'm very tired and writing this late at night so I feel less generous, but also I just was saddened greatly by the opportunity this place has.

Heres the good: Fun seating amd dining area! Totally feels like a cafe! Kudos on the variety of choices and food options! NUMEROUS vegetarian options! Smooth ordering process amd I love the wait staff who visits the table.

Not so good: We we're greeted by the salad bar attendant who had a slight attitude... But Also the meat lady had an attitude... And it wasn't even the occasional "today is just a bad day", it was much more of a "I'm here to serve you but its only because I'm getting paid for it and not because I actually want to be here" kind of attitude... It was very unfortunate! (I won't name names for the mere hope that I read into it wrong and they truly were just having a bad day)

The price was reasonable but certainly not extraordinary. The serving size for the salad and sides were that of an elementary school public lunch. Certainly not a place to go if you like to EAT. Unless, of coarse, you pay for an extra serving (which I should've done with the salad).

The food tasted fine. Nothing special, except that squash casserole? That was exceptional!

The presentation was fair and fine.

Overall, this place was OK. Which is what leads me to my 3 star rating. Nothing here was off the charts (except that squash). The ladies bathroom, one of the stalls didn't seem to latch. I literally walked in and saw a woman doing her business...

Anyway, I would probably only eat here again with my friends who RAVE about this place just to make them happy and because ot wasn't TERRIBLE... But I will likely not choose this place on my own because there wasn't anything remarkable to come back to. Food was average, staff was sub par, decor was fair, and pricing was...

I will NEVER go back to this restaurant or recommend anyone to waste their money or time. My wife and I was intown on a jobsite and was extremely hungry, remind you this is the only thing that we have eaten for the day. My wife is the one who noticed the sighn on the way to check into the hotel, thats another horrible experience!You know when God gives you all the signs that you need and don't listen. The owner was polite but the team was ignorant, disrespectful, and no customer service experience at all,I don't know how they have a job. The food was awful, salty stake, discussting eggy MAC & CHESSE, DRY CHICKEN, WATERY cabbage, DRY HARD biscuits and rolls and so much more. I have never been so disappointed in my life about food, and the nerve of the staff yelling out we want to go home, and breaking plates. I know this is long but this is only 30% of it. PLEASE DONT EAT HERE IF YOU REALLY LOVE FOOD AND REALLY LOVE GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE. I am a proud black man and life abroad, I've been to Germany and back, so I've seen a few things, as a black man that's actually takes pride in working, I would fire immediately everyone working in this restaurant that is black!!! Shame on these sorry selfless people who don't appreciate an honest days of work. One lady in the check out acts like a stripper ready to turn up. The older black lady with the blonde extensions was just dumb founded and rude for no reason, and if you willing to lose your life there a brother that looks and acts like he just got out of the penitentiary, I love my people, but damn!!! I would love to give S&S a 5-star rating, especially considering I’ve been eating there since a child. However, it seems as though since they’ve gotten new management, the customer service and quality of food hasn’t been its best. I sent an email on Jan 26 (follow-up on Feb 12) that has yet to be replied to, in regards to a situation that occurred while dining in at the location in Bloomfield Rd. These past few weeks, I keep telling myself that I won’t be going back to S&S, yet I give them another chance... to mess up something. I’d highly suggest they start back giving the customers an itemized receipt after ordering for them to review or at least call the order back out before checking out. Last week, I was charged for 2 baked eggplant, which I received but didn’t order, didn’t eat and was out of $3.18. Today, I ordered 2 duplicate meals; however, 1 had corn and 1 had dressing. My sweet potato soufflé wasn’t whipped at all, as I picked out 2 chunks of sweet potato as if they were cut for yams. I paid for 5 corn muffins (again, which I received) but only ordered 3. It wasn’t until I got home that I realized I didn’t receive the fried okra that I’d paid additional money for. Overall, they’d save food cost and customers money if they come up with a solution to double check the customers order prior to it being plated for take-out. I’m sure I’ll return but I will be extra-attentive and more than likely request a receipt to review...
