A&W Restaurant — Restaurant in Madisonville

We ordered 2 combos, then were informed we did not. We were informed that we ordered 3 sandwiches and 2 orders of French fries (which doesn't sound like anything we would typically order, but okay...). We wanted drinks with our meals and when we asked where our drinks were, we were informed how we had supposedly ordered. Then we were offered to buy our drinks separately lol. For context, my mother-in-law and father-in-law (they were in the car beside us) ordered three drinks and only got two of them. Seems suspicious to me, like maybe the girl/person (I'll try not to assume their gender) taking orders made a few mistakes today, which is fine, we are all human. Had it not been for that, I would have rated this restaurant location higher. They marked the special sandwich that my son wanted, and I felt that was really nice, and the carhop with the septum piercing was very friendly, which really the third star is riding on the wonderful customer service provided by them (the carhop with the nose piercing). The person taking our order, however, was not. We weren't going to dispute their mistake, but I'm definitely going to take a few more minutes in deciding my choices before spending my money here. The food was okay, typical for any A&W location. The fries were kind of soggy, and my sandwich was a little squished. They got everything on the sandwiches right, which is the bare minimum for...

Came across this place when I was on my way to Gatlinburg, TN. Now the only thing I had ever seen from A&W was the root beer but I knew for years they had actual restaurants it was just none were by me. So I had to take this opportunity right?.... RIGHT?!

This one in particular we visited I believe I was told was the first one ever built. Pretty cool. Service was good and quick as well.

Now for the food. I just got a burger and fries as you can see here. This was hands down probably the worst fast food burger I have ever had. This thing was tasteless and dry but had a weird aftertaste almost like a school lunch burger (if you know you know). I couldn't take anymore than 2 bites before I flat out just couldn't eat it anymore. 1/10

The fries were okay. Crispy with a slightly weird texture and I think that comes from whatever they are battered in. 5/10.

Hands down would absolutely never ever try this place again. Do I regret it? No. I am happy I can actually say I've had it but I just don't ever want to have...

Just ate there earlier today and the food and service are awesome!!! Had a minor problem where the menu had recently changed so I got chicken sliders instead of the bacon double I thought I ordered. Also got my root beer in a cup instead of that frosty mug. They fixed both right away and even though I offered to pay the difference, they left me with the cup of root beer and the sliders. You can't get a better fast food burger anywhere. Made fresh like it should be. The fries are nice and crispy too. As far as a frosty cold mug of A&W root beer, well, what can I say other than there's no better way to have one than that. Wish we had the A&W in Athens as I don't get up to Madisonville too often. I'd trade it for the local "America's Drive In" ANY TIME!! (forget McDs).... Of course, the staff there is very friendly and helpful too! Lots of smiles and great service!!
