I'm giving two stars because the young owner seems nice and I honestly do wish her the best. However, I tried this place for the first time this morning and a few things stood out.
None of the appliances like the espresso machine, blender, or toaster oven are professional grade. I get that there aren't really toaster ovens that are professional grade but I think it just also adds to my point. They're all things you can buy retail and have in your home on a regular basis.
The espresso machine in particular was a $300 machine off amazon and the taste and quality of the espresso reflect it. The espresso was store bought pre-ground coffee. If you're going to call yourself "The Coffery" you should probably know something about coffee and how to make good quality coffee. As this was quite literally the worst espresso I've had in years.
In addition to that I was the only one in there but it took 15 minutes to get my coffee. Apparently the portafilter needed to be cleaned (not sure why it wasn't cleaned already since no one was in there ahead of me), and I watched her clean it with just water which took a good 7 minutes.
Lastly, the place isn't as inviting as it could be. There was one table in there and it was occupied by the owners things and laptop. You couldn't sit down and enjoy yourself if you wanted to.
Again, she was nice and pleasant to interact with, but it seems to me that she underestimated the standard she would need to hit and the neighborhood that she's in.
UPDATED: I also just realized after looking at the prices on her sign in the picture, the prices in the picture of the menu I took this morning, and my receipt that I had texted to myself when I paid. Both the photo the owner posted on here and the sign I saw this morning, along with picture of the menu I took today all say $3.98 for a double espresso. However, when I look at my receipt she charged me $4.48 plus the tip a weird amount for the tip. If I had been charged correctly ($3.98 + 15% tip that I added) then I should have been charged a total of $4.57. However, I was charged a total of $5.15 ($4.48 + a weird amount of a tip). I've attached photos as a comparison. Turns out that this girl isn't as nice as I thought and is doing...
Read moreWhile I don't normally take the time to write positive reviews, I believe that this little corner coffee shop is worth the time.
To start, I had a brownie with a caramel mocha coffee and the combination was perfect. The brownie was freshly baked -- the interior was warm and oozed with melted chocolate, yet still was still crispy and crunchy on the outside. The caramel mocha coffee was just right -- not too sweet but flavorful enough to either go well with the brownie, or by itself.
By no means is Your Coffery perfect today -- there are no pictures on the walls or decorations, there is no online ordering set up yet and not everything on the menu is readily available – but it certainly has the potential to be, especially since the owner is willing to have a pre-opening event in order to solicit feedback for improvements. It shows extreme dedication on her part -- dedication to improve and provide excellent service by willingly taking the time to prepare everything herself and seek feedback of those who happened to stumble into her shop today. The customer ahead of me asked if they had anything with oat milk or almond milk and while she didn’t, this is why the owner wanted to have a pre-opening event – to see what local customers have to say in order to improve and be ready for when the shop finally opens.
There are many coffee shops chains around, but I think having a small, locally owned coffee shop is a great change of pace, especially when it is local. Your Coffery has been under construction for about a year now, so it’s exciting to see it finally ready to open up. From what I saw today I believe, and hope, that this little corner coffee shop will do great and it has the potential to be your local “pick me up”. Being critical is easy. Finding a place that’s worth writing positively about --...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I live right down the street from Your Coffery and have been waiting for it to open! We finally tried it this morning and are so excited to have a delicious coffee shop just a minutes walk away. The specialty caramel coffee with cinnamon topping has such a unique flavor profile that keeps you going back for more and the lemon cake with drizzle was moist and the perfect amount of sweetness. Raquel was also so kind and welcoming. I hope this place takes off, we...
