If you are looking for an amazing sushi experience, ask to sit at the bar with the chefs. They are super friendly and helpful. We went to Dash Dashi while on vacation to LA for my 40th birthday. We're from the Midwest and wanted to try some better sushi. Our AirBnb hostess had this restaurant on her list of recommendations, and after a lot of online research, we chose to try this establishment. We were blown away. I started with green tea, which they keep a close eye on and refilled promptly from a porcelain steeping kettle. The miso soup and seaweed salad were next, and both were fantastic. We also got a couple of a la carte sushi to start us off. I highly recommend trying one or two of their samplers. The chef explained these samplers will change depending on what quality ingredients they can acquire in different seasons. We got a yellow tail sushi sampler and white meat sashimi sampler, each of which came with two each of three different meats. Not only does this give you a wide range of things to try, it also gives you a chance to let the chefs know what you like and prefer. This is important because of the Top Secret Roll. The Top Secret Roll is just the "chefs choice," and is a premium roll, but very reasonably priced, because they will use premium ingredients. If you've taken the time to sit at the chef's counter, chat with the chefs, try some samplers, and tell them about your preferences, then they will make a "chef's choice" that is tailored to you. It was incredible. The ingredients were well matched with each other, and in excellent proportions. After the meal, we had paid the check and were just chatting with them as we were about to leave, and when they found out we were there for my birthday, they said I wasn't allowed to leave. Our chef then prepared a surprise for me (I'll leave the surprise a surprise), and the entire staff sang to me regardless of where they were in the restaurant or what they were doing. It was very cute. This is easily one of the best dining experiences my wife and I have ever had, and was fabulous food. The price was really quite affordable as well. We were not cutting any corners, ordered a LOT of food, including multiple premium options and drinks, and our tab totalled less than $120. We tipped very generously on top of that. Compared to the other mundane meals we had in LA that were $80+, this was...
Read moreWow, I didn't know where to even begin. Was in town with one of my best friends catching up. We were having drinks across the street and the bartender suggested we try Dash Dashi, ask for Tony. Well, ask for Tony we did and let me tell you, hands down this was one of the best sushi experiences I've had! Tony and the crew offered a really nice Omakase. I've never had fresh Soft Shell Blue Crab, incredible. Delicious oysters. All the fish were great, fresh, tasty and well seasoned. They serve you as much or as little as you like when doing Omakase. Oh and they serve REAL Japanese beer, Orion from Okinawa!! 🍺 We purposely let loose and ordered a lot so was a larger bill than normal. It was still very affordable and great service.
Overall, a great time. Thank you so much Tony...
Read moreThis place is super fun and great to have a good meal. The staff is super nice and super fun. The meal was delicious and great.
I had the sashimi platter but I would highly recommend the omakase as they will make as much food as you can stomach and it is very reasonable. They made us the fried mini crabs which were delicious and crunchy. The sashimi platter was good with the toro and salmon and albacore. We ordered the pornado which is a play on potato and tornado but I'd like to think they meant sometimes else too... 👀 🍆.
Overall a great meal with reservations available along with great staff. The parking can be a hassle with the crowdedness...
