After a long drive from northern Cali, we decided to stop and dine at this restaurant. We’ve been here before twice, and the food was good. We were tired and wanted a quick bite and crash, we had our two little tea-cups min Pinch with us. We approached the hostess and he sat us down not mentioning anything about the dog policy, as the waitress approached us for the drinks she also didn’t mentioned anything about the policy. We ordered drinks and were looking at the menu, she brought our drinks and then seconds late she THREW a pamphlet on the table with the pet policy…didn’t bother to brief the policy to us, we felt so embarrassed that we were out place. We asked for the manager on duty to speak about the rude behavior of the waitress and why they sat us down knowingly that we had our two dogs, and proceeded to seat us. The waitress didn’t even bother to say I can set you up with an order to go…nothing at all…it was probably the worst display of customer service I have ever experienced. The manager came and didn’t even apologize for the behavior of the waitress she just explained the policy of the restaurant on pets…no apologies whatsoever. As we were leaving the waitress was smiling and smirking that we had to go, it was as if she was delighted of our embarrassment of having to leave..she looked like she was enjoying the moment. I am from out of state and I considered this place a decent place to eat, I am also a service member that will be sharing this story with our nearby installation in El segundo to advise them to stay away from this place, and will advise anyone from my home state that if you want to be disrespected and embarrassed “THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO”. if every time I embarras someone and smile and smirk on the outcome I probably wouldn’t have a job. There are bad customer service but this tops it all…I hope this review makes it to management because from the top-down this place needs a serious attitude adjustment. if management is interested in who was the waitress it was the one that was assigned to the outside patio on 27 Dec 2023, around...
Read moreBeing parked on the corner of Highland and Manhattan Beach Blvd since 1973, The Kettle is one of the Last Bastions of Freedom that defends the character of Manhattan Beach from becoming Beverly Hills. Real ones know how much MB has changed over the past 20+ years from Wahoo's shuttering its doors years ago and Tacolicious opening on it's grave (paying $20 for 3 tiny little tacos feels like a sin), to the Manhattan Beach Pizzeria needing a gofund me to stay open. It feels like my childhood is being closed down.
The Kettle and its 24 hour diner food has helped raise me. The amount of memories it has given me through time is endless: Eating with friends after school on half day Fridays, seeing Pau Gasol here in 2010, coming post prom night at 3am with our group of 20+, gathering here when someone in our group chat was down bad about a girl to regroup and talk it out, coming here fresh off the plane from LAX otw home from college to meet with your high school buddies to catch up, etc. The Kettle acts as sort of an Independence Hall for Manhattan Beach.
When I was a chubby 12 year old kid without a care in the world, the spinach artichoke dip with piping hot pita bread on the side was there for me.
When I was 17 and got my heart shattered into a million pieces, the chicken breast with scrambled egg whites with broccoli instead of potatoes was there for me.
Now, a 27 year old BEAST, the chicken breast with scrambled egg whites with steak fries instead of potatoes and a Bran Muffin is there for me. Their Bran Muffin is actually undefeated, a spiritual experience really.
The Kettle has seen me in every step of my evolution, and I know most, if not all, Manhattan Beach Lifers can say the same. If the Kettle ever goes, a part of the Soul of Manhattan Beach will go with it.
LOCALLY WORLD FAMOUS FOREVER!

Read moreWill never return. Server was cruel. Experience was degrading. Pet owners - please don’t even look in this direction. As an MB resident, I’m crushed to cross this off my frequent eatery.
We had our two pound dog in a backpack, completely bundled up. It was a really cold night and since we had a dog, asked to sit in the patio. The manager and host sat us. No mention that we could not sit in the outdoor patio. The server was horrible. She literally threw a memo at us after we had gotten drinks and when we didn’t order fast enough for her liking and ran off as soon as possible without even talking us through the contents of the memo. It asked us to leave. She did not even give us the option to get something to-go or give us the decency to talk to us anymore. She was sneering and laughing at us as we grabbed our stuff and headed out. It’s a quiet Wednesday night, two days after Christmas. We came back from a long road trip and just wanted a bite, but instead, got treated in a really humiliating manner. She was grinning ear to ear that we had to leave. I don’t understand what possesses people to be rude to customers this way. Especially during the holidays. I spoke to the manager, but we know nothing will be done. The reason I am so saddened by our experience at The Kettle is because this was the first place I ever came to eat at when I moved to Manhattan Beach. I brought all of my friends and family here when they would visit. I never cared about the long wait times or if food seemed cold because it felt homey. Now, I can’t ever recommend this place to anyone. Especially if you value kindness and...
