I sent this to their Facebook page hoping for feedback, but didnāt get anything despite them āseeing itā. My mom gave them a second chance today for lunch and my aunt was reprimanded for ordering tacosā¦. So now Iāll place this here since I tried to give the benefit of the doubt and talk about our experience with the owner insteadā¦.
My family came in yesterday for my birthday dinner. Esmeralda was our server and things started out really great. She was very friendly and included my 5 year old in the conversation which I think is often looked over as a server so I appreciated that very much and so did he!
She explained the menu for us as we have not been in since the change over. We ordered the queso fondido which was one of the best I have had. When she took our food order, I ordered the el pastor tacos. I was never more āscoldedā in a restaurant for my choice of meal. She told me that yall are a steak house and tacos are for lunch. I laughed because I thought she was kidding, but she continued to school me on Mexican cuisine and the authenticity of the menu, telling me I should try the steak. I wanted tacos and margaritas as my birthday dinner and instead of traveling to New Lenox to Don Joseās I thought I would give the new restaurant a try. After she took my order it was my moms turn, my mom said āwell Iām scared to order now but Iāll take the beef tacosā and Esmeralda said āthatās for lunch, no beef for dinnerā so my mom chose the steak tacos. Again being told that tacos are not what people eat in Mexico.
My sister in law is from Mexico, we understand to an extent Mexican culture and cuisine and appreciate variety of cultures in life. However, we came to the restaurant for tacos because thatās my favorite.
I wanted to bring this to your attention because at this point I am unsure if we would return knowing how we were treated. I also wanted to ask if tacos will remain on the menu, because Esmeralda told us that next time tacos are a no go. Is this true?
And finally, is it standard to be charged $1 for a lime wedge?
We were very excited to see agave opening under new management and in a new vibe for manhattan. There are not many food choices and I can promise you as a family with a young child we would be way more apt to dine in a Mexican restaurant with tacos than a steak house on a random Wednesday. So for the success of the restaurant I really hope this experience is not the...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIāve been here twice; once with a friend for a late lunch right after they opened, and once with my husband. I got the cowboy tacos with my friend and a NY Strip dinner when I went with my husband a few weeks later. Both times, the service was excellent; even better the second time with additional staff clearing plates and ensuring our needs were met. Margaritas were really good and tasted like they were made from scratch. My husband got a Poloma and a Pina colada, the latter was exceptionally smooth and no chunks of ice, great flavor and a cherry on top. Both times the food was excellent. Upscale authentic Mexican steakhouse is a really accurate description, but I will say although it is upscale, they had a range of menu items that would fit different budgets. The cowboy taco meal was $12 and plenty of food. The NY strip dinner was also a plentiful meal at $36 with potatoes, salad, and rice, with incredibly tender meat cooked to order (and accurately done so). We got two appetizers, quesabirria and guacamole, both really good. My husband normally doesnāt like guac bc he thinks it doesnāt taste like anything, but this was so fresh and flavorful it changed his mind. Everything was exceptional and this addition is honestly almost too good for Manhattan. It was busy and I hope it continues because they deserve it. The decor and atmosphere is fun and enjoyable. Itās clean and we loved the choices for flatware and place settings. Fridays they have live music, and though there wasnāt live music on Saturday, it was still a great experience. Weāll be back and probably really soon. Thanks Flor de Fuego for taking a chance on Manhattan. We hope the people donāt disappoint because your cuisine sure doesnāt! 10/10...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWatch out! My family and I went here for the first time because we were really craving a sit down Mexican place. Vibes were pretty good and we were excited to try it since we loved coming to agave. Waitress was very nice and service was quick. But thatās where the pros end. When asked for queso dip, we got a plate of hot cheese. And that was the best out of all the food. Ordered Al pastor tacos, chicken tacos, and a chicken quesadilla for the kiddos. My kids will eat about anything and they would not take more than one bite. The beans were absolutely inedible, the rice was dry, and the chicken and pastor were flavorless. I donāt mean to hate on a small business, but Iāve never had a more unpleasant experience. And the price!!!! I spent $75 dollar on 6 tacos, a cheese plate, and a...
