Hartman's Bakery Manitowoc — Restaurant in Manitowoc

Hartman's Bakery is one of the best I have ever been to. We were in town for the NFL Draft and looking for a breakfast spot. Hartman's popped up, and I had to stop. I will be dreaming about this place, long after my visit, just like Mike's Pastry in Boston. I tried an eclair and a peanut square. They both held up to eating later in the day. The eclair was firm on the outside, frosting was perfectly chocolaty, and cream on the inside was plentiful. Now, the peanut square, I have never heard of this piece of heaven. The inside was a sweet, fluffy, moist cake, coated in some kind of glaze and rolled in peanuts. The nuts were finely chopped, making it easy to eat. I went back the next morning to fill a box with delectable treats to bring home for the kids to enjoy. I can't wait to sample more myself! The staff both times were friendly...

I'm trying to find a go to bakery. Unfortunately I don't think this will be it. I stopped at approx 11 a.m. on Tuesday June 30th. There was one customer finishing checking out & then I was the only customer. First I was never greeted with a hello or even a smile. The lady said, do you know what you want? I said I was going to purchase one earlier of the following 7 layer bar- no flavor & extremely dry Frosted cookie - hard as a ROCK. Even after dunking. It got tossed Lemon bar- this was very good. Generous size. I cut it into 4. Yellow cupcake - just ok. Cake donut - dry & flavorless.

I used to live next to Hartmanns growing up and when they renovated I was very excited to be a customer again. I hadn’t eaten there in years but their donuts were always my favorite. I could wake up at noon and walk over to get donuts any morning but now they “sell out” of donuts at 10am. Just make more donuts. How do you make money when you have “no donuts”. How do employees make money when you close an hour early because of laziness. Now there is no donuts when I get out of church. Last time I went there I asked when they were making the next batch and they simply told me they weren’t making anymore. It was 10:30 and they close at 12. Surely donuts don’t take 2...
