Can't recommend this place to anyone, I'm not going to lie. Not only did they make me feel extremely unwelcome, they managed to do it twice, on two separate occasions, over a week apart. I decided to try the place out since I seen the rating and the pictures and thought, this would be a really good place to try however I was definitely misinformed and lead to believe this place has a good environment.
On my first trip there, I walked in and noticed a sort of packed dining area. I was welcomed in by the cook, who immediately after looked over to a young man that looked to be a waiter. The young man walked over and instead of greeting me immediately told me that they have decided to close early for the day. Mind you the cooks were still cooking and the place was full of people plenty of who had not even received food. So not only did I waste my time going out of my way to the place, but I was also not even given the option to order anything to go. Mind you I showed up 10-20 minutes before the doors should even be holding a closed sign. First red flag for me as this made me feel it was personal or something wrong with me perhaps.
On my second trip, I arrived nearly an hour before their closing time. I walked in and was greeted, this time, by the same waiter that had sent me away the week before. He told me, "hows it going feel free to sit wherever you like." This time the place was mostly empty and only had 3 older gentlemen sitting at the bar/counter eating. I walked halfway down, and sat at the counter leaving a chair or 2 between me and anyone else. As I sat down, some guy washing dishes turns around, looks at me and says can you go sit at that table over there, pointing to a dirty table in the corner of the building that had some fly flying around it. I looked confused, but for the sake of not trying to ruin anyone else's morning I walked over to the table. This made me feel completely awkward and I no longer wanted to be there. Possibly it was the looks of the other gentlemen but the cook then decided to say, "you can sit here if you like" pointing to a diff spot at the counter. Already feeling the way I did, I simply declined and asked for a coffee when the waiter came by with silverware. Unable to shake the disrespect I had just received, I told the waiter to "scratch that, I'll go somewhere else for breakfast". The waiter said, "okay" , but I'm guessing missed the hint that I was bothered by the whole ordeal. I picked up my phone and left, heading back to my car to search for a meal elsewhere that deserves my money. Never have I had a place make me feel the way this place did twice in a row, and the sad part is I was looking forward to trying it out.. 0/10 they do not care about certain people one bit, and their lack of respect shows that. Letting a customer leave after you clearly disrespected their presence and business is a huge no go for me. The staff needs some hospitality lessons to say the least. Won't be going back for a third disappointment any time soon. I'll instead find a place that respects people equally and appreciates everyone's business. 2 Thumbs...
Read moreI was staying with my sister in Manteca and she suggested that we head out to the Mangy Moose for breakfast. I have to admit, I was intrigued by the name and they had hooked before I ever stepped in the door.
When I did actually step in the door, I was blown away with the arrangement. It was very simple actually but I never see it in breakfast places anymore. The main part of the restaurant was at the counter in front of the cooks. There where a few tables around like two of them and then there was a back room with a few more tables and those look like they might have been an add on after the fact or something.
It is very cool to plop down at the bar and engage with people sitting on either side of you as well as joining into the conversation with the different cooks behind the counter who are also right there talking with you. We don't need social media, we just need the Mangy Moose setup in all restaurants LOL!
Ok so onto the food. I had the moose skillet it has bacon linguiça and ham scrambled with diced potatoes egg and cheese also served with two sausage links. I never had linguica before and from what I could tell it is some kind of foreign sausage. In my book it is more meat and that is A-OK!
So this skillet comes out that is filled with yummy meat, eggs and potatoes and on top it has two more sausages. This plate was very tasty. I did hit it with a little tabasco and I was off to the races. I was not overly hungry on this day but I had a good appetite and I couldn't get through half of this skillet. The portions here are huge. I actually went with 3 other people and everybody asked for a to to box.
If your in downtown Manteca, stop into the...
