I’ve been to the Marathon Grille two times before, and went last night (Saturday April 13). My first two experiences were great, were not long after they had opened and during football season so the atmosphere was lively and staff were on point. My experience last night was just awful. After this I will never go back. As we walked through the door, we stood there for a minute before a bubbly host greeted us and set us up at the table. She tried to explain the promotion going on as a fundraiser for a local dog rescue as, “theres some specials here to raise money for the doggies or whatever”. I initially thought that was strange- thought there would be more of an explanation for this great cause. Anyway we were greeted by our server a few minutes later who was prompt with getting our drinks and appetizer. After setting down our food, never checked in to see how it was (not a huge deal with an app). While eating our app I couldnt help but be distracted by the obnoxious host who was standing on the far side of the bar, shouting out “sweet caroline” lyrics when the song wasnt even playing. Her obnoxious behaviors continued for at least 15 min until our meals came. We ordered two sandwiches with fries. The fries had been soo oversalted they were almost inedible. The server never once came to ask how the meal was. As we’re eating I finally realized why the host was being so obnoxious, she was blantatly chugging Coronas at the bar. In direct view of the patrons, not trying to hide it. In the short time I ate my entree she had downed 2 beers. Are you kidding me?! At the end of our meal I asked the server to speak to the manager. He responded, “why is something wrong? Shes behind the bar”. I was shocked. So your manager on duty is the one serving your hostess beer after beer while shes working and allowing her to get obnoxiously drunk on the job. Blew my mind. Never setting foot in...
Read moreVisiting Marathon for the week and decided to grab dinner a little later tonight. We looked up this place and decided to give it a try since we saw some good reviews. The place smelt good (whatever was cooking at the time) and it seemed clean. Wasn’t many in the restaurant when we sat down. My husband ordered the Lobster po boy, our daughter the kids Mac and cheese and I just got a simple chicken tenders basket. We ordered and waited close to an hour before getting the food. The waitress seemed to be the only one working the floor and she was nice and made sure to get our drink refills anytime the drinks were empty so we hung around since we had already ordered. When we got the food the kids Mac and cheese was cold.. the chicken basket was DISGUSTING! The chicken was way over cooked, the outside breading was almost black and the inside chicken was hard and even pulling off the breading there was just no flavor. My husbands lobster po boy was the worst. From the pieces of fried lobster he had 1 small lobster piece, the rest was breading. To top it off the lobster smelt bad and didn’t look right. The only decent thing was their fries - but I’ll say we joked about them being from McDonald’s across the street because they looked and tasted exactly like it. We spent over $50 on food we picked at and clearly had an issue with. We’re not ones to make a big deal and demand a free meal (even when the food was not even eaten, but picked at.) we did tell the waitress when she noticed something was wrong and all she said was she was sorry and there wasn’t anything she could do anyway but to tell the cooks. To be honest, we could have went across the street to McDonalds and got a better and cheaper meal and been satisfied. We don’t know how the bar is but as far as the food- save your $$ and your time and pass on this one. We definitely won’t...
Read moreDrove into the plaza HOPING there was a sit-indoors, table service restaurant...what a surprise!
We were greeted by the friendly bartender and served by Leanne...who is a terrific server. She was truly professional and pleasant...and helped my elderly friend make a meal choice more suited to his dietary needs. He had Chicken Alfredo and I suspect he will have three meals out of it...what a huge portion!
I had the steamed shrimp appetizer exactly how I like them...minimal seasoning, chilled, with lemon wedge and cocktail sauce. They were large shrimp and there were 9 or possibly 10 on my plate.
For dessert we both wanted to try the Blueberry Key Lime Pie (and I don't really like Key Lime Pie), it was outstanding. We both had coffee which had just been freshly brewed.
I ended up bringing home and extra piece of the Blueberry Key Lime Pie and Death By Chocolate Key Lime Pie for my son...it was that good. Upon asking Leanne I discovered that it is made by The Marathon Grill and Ale House themselves, on the premises.
The interior of the restaurant is dimmed by the dark wood plantation shutters which are a welcome relief from the sun and brightness of outdoors. Plenty of seating in the bar or restaurant sections...booths, high-tops, tables and highchairs.
The Plaza has loads of parking and many handicap accessible sites with properly marked access ramps. The restaurant is fully handicap accessible too, as are the restrooms.
Not a plus for me were the TV'S all around the restaurant, however, the sound was muted. The music that was playing from the bar was at a very comfortable level and did not interfere with normal conversation.
This place reminds me of a comfortable, neighborhood Irish Pub...suitable and comfortable for people of all ages and their families....
