Niko's Pointers Saloon — Restaurant in Marengo

Nikos in Marengo- Avoid! As soon as I sat down I remember why I don’t like this place. The service was terrible and I’m not talking about the cell service- because the bartenders were happily on their phone for the first 10 minutes while I sat at the bar, purposely being ignored. Should have just poured my own beer, they wouldn’t have even cared. If your going to be open on a football Sunday- how about you staff bartenders that knows to put football games on and that knows the difference between MLB and NFL when asked to watch a football game. Also- how about paying attention to your TWO customers that you had in the bar by staying off your damn phone and greeting with a smile and not a snarl. Obviously the only way you’ll get the bartenders attention and their high-pitched hyena screaming is if you get up to leave and go to another bar. Can you say psycho/Paige... If ever in Marengo- save yourself the harassment and go to another...

We generally order from Pointers Saloon for pickup, and in the past everything we have ordered has been exceptional. The patty melts have been to die for, and the full meals, such as breaded pork tenderloin, salmon, chopped steak, mile high meat loaf, etc., have all been excellent, with a vegetable and large side salad included.

The last few months, they don't have most menu item available. One evening, on a weekend, we were told they were making only cheeseburgers. If you can get something on the menu you would like, the salads are smaller, the portions are smaller, and the quality of the food isn't as good as it was. Something has changed and it's not for the better. We have given up ordering from...

This hidden gem is a delicious spot! As a family who doesnot drink, we still feel comfortable coming in and eating in their cute eating area. Great service and the food is to die for. (Their green bean fries and dipping sauce are seriously the best kind I've ever had!) The only reason why I won't give it 5 stars is because the prices are extremely high. For 3 meals it cost over 50$ The green beansalone are 8.99 for one serving. Other than that, they are amazing!

Edit: Still so delicious, but the the green bean fries went up in price from 8.99 to $10 and I feel like you receive less when you order them. Something worth considering when you're...
