Smoke a 'Lil Smoke — Restaurant in Marion

We recently visited Smoke a Lil Smoke BBQ in Marion, NC, and it was a fantastic experience! The atmosphere is inviting, with great art and decor that adds to the charm of the place. You order at the counter, and they bring the food to your table, which is a nice touch.

We tried the Chicken, Hog, and Pig Plate, which includes pulled chicken, pulled pork, and smoked beef sausage. For sides, we chose the sidewinder fries and mac and cheese. The pulled pork and chicken were tender, moist, and had an excellent smoky flavor. They offer four different sauces made from scratch. The mustard sauce was delicious and paired perfectly with the sausage, but my favorite was the sweet sauce.

The mac and cheese was rich and flavorful, while my husband loved the sidewinder fries, which were crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. One of the owners came out to speak with us, and he was incredibly friendly. He even gave us a sample of the brisket, which was delicious.

Edit as of today 1/29/2024: My toddler, husband, friend and myself got some form of food poisoning after eating here. I am so disappointed. We did love this stop but someone isn't keeping the cleanliness up or not throwing expired food out. I have work experience in restaurant and have a ServSafe certificate, and for us to get sick when every one of us ate a different protein and side, is a HUGE red flag. Please Smoke a lil smoke, make sure you're being safe. We won't be returning for awhile if ever unfortunately.

Delicious food! Such friendly staff and a cute spot. The pulled pork was on point,ac n cheese had those crispy pieces of cheese that you want and the baked beans.....SO good! The only reason I put 4 stars instead of 5 on the atmosphere section is because they only offer canned and bottled drinks. That could just be a convenience thing for them though. We ate here for the 1st time this week and will definitely be back. The food was delicious. The prices were great. The staff was super friendly. They even took the time to explain how their sauces are made. The only "complaint" I would have was the confusion of not knowing whether to sit and be waited on, go to the register to order, or how that process worked. The guy at the register seemed really shy. They need a big voice letting people know what to do when they walk in if they've never been there before. I got the feeling that the guy working the register may be new so I hope he finds his voice to greet people as they come in and let them know to come on over to place their order. He was super friendly either way, just a little quiet.
