The area is cute. Saw a hawk fly over the car when we got there. Very farmhouse vibe inside. Decorated with antique baby clothes, which was unique but a little weird, and early farmhouse items. Table and chairs for all. No booths. I went with my partner and we were served water immediately as well as 2 slices of sunflower seed bread and 2 slices of cinnamon raisin bread with butter. I assume they were homemade as it states they are also a bakery. Bread was soft and fresh. We ordered escargot for the appetizer. It was 6 pieces in this special dish. They were already taken from the shell and soaked in a delicious garlic butter and around that was sliced white bread toast. The escargot was honestly the highlight of the meal unfortunately. The drink menu only consisted of wine and beer, though they did have angry orchard which I was grateful for. My partner ordered chicken pot pie and I ordered the half duckling. His pot pie was tasteless and the peas tasted canned. My duck came with carrots, zucchini, and.... I forgot the other veggie, plus a scoop of mashed butternut squash. The vegetables were steamed and put on the plate. There was absolutely no seasoning or butter or any kind of flavor whatsoever. The duck had a pineapple salsa that my partner took to mix into his pot pie to give it flavor and the orange glaze was tasty but not plentiful. Duck is a red meat and usually comes with a beautiful layer of fat over the breast. This was not how my portion came. Perhaps it was because it was "duckling"? Unsure. We were served quickly and were checked on casually throughout the meal. The prices were fair, the place was very clean. The town it is in has a very particular type of people that are established in the area and we did not fit that type, however, we were welcomed and treated kindly which I could truly appreciate. Parking was easy, though we were unsure where to enter the building at first due it sharing a lot with a flower shop. But since the flower shop had signs, we could figure out where to enter through process of elimination. Overall, it was a unique attempt at something new. I can't say I would recommend...
Read moreI really wanted this place to be good. The photos looked great. The atmosphere was quaint and there were plenty of menu options. Before I go on, I do want to say that our server was lovely. Accommodating and attentive without hovering. I also can give accolades to the pot pie which was very hot and very fresh. That pot pie alone is what brings my food score up to a 3.
We had the mussels to start which were just okay. The broth had flavor and the portion was generous enough, but the flavor of the broth didn't really translate to the mussels themselves. My husband had the duck, which had an interesting sauce, but was decidedly overcooked. Their mashed potatoes, which are meant to be a crowd favorite, were cold on my pot pie, and dried out on my husband's plate.
I ended my meal with the cookie pie which was downright bad. The server did take the pie off of our bill. It looked like the cookie pieces used to actually make the pie burned but were used in the pie anyway. Very disappointing for the type of restaurant that bills as an "and bakery" type restaurant. It feels like someone in the kitchen screwed up and was just hoping nobody would notice.
Overall I'm hoping we just caught them on an off night. I would definitely stick with the comfort food part of the menu. We may be back, but that's more to do with how many options are nearby than this...
Read moreUsed to love this place. Had an old fashion country feel with great food. We don't get to go too often since we are busy and it is so far. Went there recently with our son and was completely disappointed. He usually got the potato pancake but probably won't again after this visit. The pancake was way over cooked to the point of sawing into rubber and the presention was sorely lacking, plate 1 leaf lettuce and glob of apple sauce on plate. We started with the artichoke dip with instead of their homemade breads came with everything crackers I can get at aldis. The dip looked more like opaque canned artichokes thickened with cornstarch slurry and cooked spinach thrown in for color. Hardly any taste and deffinitely not creamy. I had the crab stuffed sole with lobster sauce. Could not find or taste crab in the over seasoned crumb stuffing and and the same slurry thickened kind of opaque sauce with very little lobster unless it was all lobster base. The bet part of the entree was the sides, green beans, mashed, and butternut. The dessert was good. My husband was disappointed at the mixed green salad they charged him extra on side of his sandwich since it was literally just mixed greens and balsamic dressing. Nothing else, ie carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes. NOTHING. As much as it saddens me to say we will probably not...
