The restaurant itself is open and airy, the design is understated but elegant. it was mostly empty for a 5:30 seating on a Friday so it was hard to assess what the ambient noise might be with a crowd. We were a birthday ten-top, the server was obviously very inexperienced, but he was sincere and trying his best and since I have worked in fine-dining and understand how hard it is at the beginning, it was easy to overlook some missteps (at first). The drinks arrived one or two at time, so were not able to have a proper toast, the server could not answer my questions regarding the preparation of the Old Fashioned and forgot what I ordered so he had to come back, he then asked me if I wanted it Smoked, so I did have that option. The pour was very weak, there's no way it was 2oz, it was just Bourbon with a shirley-temple quality cherry and an orange slice (not muddled), it had a slight bit of smoky taste, but it was pretty much just Bourbon on the rocks, speaking of rocks, the ice used had very small cubes (they weren't even cubes, they were like what you would get in a hotel ice machine) I would have complained about the short poor and the complete lack of it being an Old Fashioned, but I didn't want to embarrass the server or our guests, so I let it pass. The menu is extremely limited, the choices available just made you feel like you were "settling for something" The Burrata appetizer arrived, it was pleasant but unremarkable. I ordered a second cocktail, a mezcal mule (minor note, it was also missing the specified garni, not that that would have helped), I have no idea what I was served, but it was undrinkable, I couldn't be polite and choke it down so I brought it up to the manager at the expo line and just handed it to him and said, "i'm sorry, this is terrible" I really couldn't hide my irritation at this point because things were building up, I didn't even have some water to wash that windex taste out of my mouth. They were attentive and apologetic and comped me a different drink, which was drinkable, but again, nothing to write home about (They really need to properly train the bartender, he was clearly very slow and inexperienced)
The entrees arrived, if you want to call them that, the portions were so small they should have been embarrassed to serve them. Let's be clear, this is Marshall, MN, not Minneapolis, so if they think they can hide behind a trendy and pretentious facade to forgive minuscule over-priced portions, they are remarkably tone deaf to who their audience is and what they will be able to "get away with". My Flank Steak was not Rare, it was barely mid-rare and the other temps of beef at the table were all off as well, nobody really raved about the food, it was almost like we had all just given up at that point and accepted our fate. I can't imagine how Atlantic Place is going to manage not to alienate the residents, in fact, they may already have, and it's not like Marshall is a tourist town that can survive on "one and done" patrons, you need to build trust, not demand allegiance.
In conclusion, I won't be returning, and it's a real shame, Marshall is sorely lacking decent dining options and having an upscale space where you can get a well-constructed craft cocktail and some culinary creations would be something I would embrace, walking in, I really wanted to love Atlantic Place, but I think it's a hoidy-toidy hot-mess that has decided to approach Marshall by arrogantly demanding to be seen as an elevated concept rather than earning that distinction with time, quality and...
Read moreAtlantic Place is hands down the best spot in Marshall! Everything was exceptional from start to finish. The highlight of the evening was when the chef personally came out to meet us after the meal. We had already enjoyed a fantastic vegetarian option that wasn't even on the menu! The chef made it special for us and mentioned he's always willing to customize the menu to accommodate everyone. Even our table of dedicated carnivores agreed it was the best meal of the night!
Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals, and the creme brulee and cocktails were equally impressive. The quality of the food was outstanding, and the prices were very...
Read moreI was recently visiting in Marshall and had a wonderful experience at Atlantic Place! The restaurant is lovely, the staff was great, and Chef Ronnie made me an incredible vegan risotto. He also put together a custom to-go order to take to my mom who is in ill-health. It was the first food she'd had in ages that she enjoyed and has requested it several times since. Chef Ronnie and his team even sent her an incredibly kind note with her recent order wishing her well. I so appreciate their thoughtfulness and nourishing food. I look forward to eating there again on my next visit and thanking ...
