We have gone there for years, but quit... The food is really good and I've always like the #25... Who doesn't? The chicken salad is great too.
But, after years of waiting forever in line, you'd think they'd figure out they need a twin serving line. I don't have 20+ mins or sometimes a half hour to wait in line.
Another thing... This establishment was among the original mask tyrants in the area. I remember going in there just as our governor got rid of mask mandates and getting, literally, hollered at by a female manager (might have been the owner I'm told) and told to leave. My wife was embarrassed for sure. Our community never really did do the mask thing and apparently they had in Marshalltown, so when it officially ended, it was business as usual for us. Either way, her response to seeing our bare faces wasn't appropriate or wise as the person managing the business that day. There are plenty of ways to work with customers when problems arise. This was an example of how not to do it. This woman was obviously working hard and maybe she was having a bad day. But you don't condescend your patrons and kick them out if they make a correctible mistake.
They're no different than any other business in that neighborhood... Mother Nature really did a bang up job on their building and I'm sure they worked hard to rebuild. I don't mean to suggest they're not hard working folks that put out a good product. They are.
We haven't been back since we were given the leper treatment. I do miss it, and I'd like to stop in sometime as we pass through Mtown, but it stings when you're shamed, questioned about how what we were thinking to come without a mask, and asked to leave in front of a bunch...
Read moreI forgot pics, but I love this place. I moved here last year and it's one of my favorite sandwich shops. Everything is super tasty, although I didn't dig the cheeseburger chowder. It lacked seasoning. They have a seafood pasta that is out of this world, though. I've both dined in and ordered takeout. The inside is very clean and they have good vibey tunes playing.
The takeout experience is really cool because they will cut your footlong into 4 pieces and ask if you will be eating half later. They take the "later" half, wrap it in plastic wrap, wrap it again in wax paper, and write the name on the sandwich with the word "later." This is genius. I went in there, got a cordon bleu. I ate the "now" half when I got home and didn't eat the "later" half till the next day. It was almost as fresh as they had just made it, and it sat in my fridge all night. I think that was my favorite part. Thanks for going the extra mile.
Note to new customers: they don't take cards. Cash or local check only. But worth a stop at...
Read moreThis is without a doubt the finest eating experience available in Iowa. From the second you walk in the door you get the hospitality and the down home feel. The restaurant staff are beyond wonderful, the sandwiches are stacked and very reasonably priced. Homemade deserts are there to finish out your meal, fluff cookies and cakes. This restaurant is truly a part of the Marshslltown and Iowa culture. If it were closer I'd eat here twice a week with no problems. It is cash only so beware of that but it's well worth stopping at an...
