We were traveling through Marshalltown, Iowa, and wanted a place to eat that would be memorable. The food at Opa! Grill was an experience. I got the Opa Platter, which contains a kebab of souvlaki, spinach and cheese pies, pastitiso, pita and tzatziki. The pies, pita and sauce were very tasty and the texture of the pies was super flakey. the souvlaki skewer was probably the best part. Deliciously marinated or seasoned. I also enjoyed the soup that preceded the meal. I wasn't crazy about the pastitiso, a lasagne-like dish. The flavor was too strong for me, but I'd never had this before, so I was glad to try it.
My teenage daughters were with me. One had the chicken alfredo. The other had the chicken Caesar wrap with fries. Both liked their meals very much.
The service was great, and I believe the owner even came by to say hello and see how we were doing. All very nice.
It was maybe a bit more casual than we were looking for, but glad that we stopped in. We don't go through Marshalltown often, but when we do, we may stop back in....
Read moreAmazing little spot in town. My honest to god favorite place to eat in Marshalltown. On top of their huge menu that has a taste for everyone, even if you don't like Greek food, the place is incredibly clean. Their attention to detail and cleanliness are incredible. Floors, walls, tables, chairs, even bathrooms are completely spotless. Now to our visit, for a little flair since it was my girlfriends first time eating greek, we of course had to get the Saganaki (flaming cheese), was lit table side for flair and was quite good. For dinner we had the Chicken souvlaki entree as well as the chicken gyro (pretty much chicken souvlaki served sandwich style in a pita. Both were excellent. We didn't have room for dessert, but we did have one of the liquid variety. Very reasonable prices for wine and beer. I think my beer was only 3.50 and the wine was 3.75 or so. All in all, very good food for a reasonable price. Can't wait to return for more and THANK YOU to the owner for bringing this great addition to...
Read moreA little slice of the Mediterranean in central Iowa! Some authentic Greek food and great service! Started off with the Tiropitakia (layers of crispy philo dough filled with feta cheese and herbs) and a bowl of soup (a Lemon Chicke Rice and a creamy sausage version)...I found dipping the Tiropitakia into the creamy soup to be a winner! I ordered the Pastitsio...a Greek Lasagna and Terri ordered the Chicken Souvlaki...Chiken Kabobs. Both were fantastic! I used the Tzatziki sauce that she didn't want on my lasagna...I don't know if that's right or wrong but it sure tasted good! We finished up with their family recipe OPA Stawberry Cheesecake...MMMMMM!!!! Deeeeelicious..... Tons of other menu items that we'll be back to try in the future! I'm trying to figure out how to add...
