Read moreOkay. First of all…you will NEVER find better BBQ than you will at Blake’s. Sometimes writing reviews seems a little bit like work. But I couldn’t wait to write this one. This was our second visit to Blake’s and it was just as phenomenal as the first time. Mom had the ribs and they were fall-off-the-bone tender. I had the brisket and some sliced sausage. The brisket was succulent and the sausage was stuffed with jalapeños and cheese. My son had the chicken tenders which he tried with the Alabama white sauce and waffle fries. Said it was the best he ever had. My wife had the pulled pork which she described as melt-in-your-mouth perfect. The house salad, potato salad, and baked beans were amazing. We had blackberry cheesecake and snickerdoodle cookies for dessert which was a perfect ending to the meal. Never had better. The sweet tea was southern perfect. The cornbread was moist like cake. The staff is always SO friendly and the wait staff is super attentive. I’d like to give a big shoutout to Abbie and Kylie who handled us like seasoned pros. Never had an empty glass or empty plate until we were ready to pay and leave. The prices are just what you’d expect for food this delicious. If anything they are undercharging. Blake did a wonderful job decorating the place. The interior is enormous which is good because there is always a full parking lot there. He did a super-good job staying true to the rustic feel of the place and honoring the old Southern Milling motif. Some of the vintage wooden doors were kept along with the original exposed brick walls. They decorated with some beautiful antique furniture and accoutrements. It still manages to have a first rate atmosphere with all the rustic charm. Whoever you are and wherever you are from. Blake’s at Southern Milling is worth your time, attention, and money. This restaurant ranks among the top tier of local cuisine. I’d expect to find this type of food and service in high-dollar big-city establishment. Definitely better than all the big chain restaurants like Outback and Red...
Read moreIt’s a drive but is definitely worth it. This is only my second visit here but I’m down for a 3rd, 4th etc. First of all such a beautiful and unique building. The history and the original interior still there which I didn’t take pictures of but hey, means you should go lol. Then the food. Blakes probably has the most affordable sampler bbq platter especially with the quality of food you get. Freaking $28 for brisket, pulled pork, turkey, pork ribs, sausage link, choice of two sides, jalapeno cornbread. That is a steal!!!! (Bologna in pic I got additional a la carte 🤤)The brisket is very black pepper forward. (Not Zavala’s level black pepper) Last time a year ago I thought I might be just the slice I got but 2/2 times and both home runs in my book. Turkey is wonderfully moist and smoky. The ribs bit perfectly and I love the sauce in the house sauce with it. The corn bread had this cake like moisture and texture that balanced the bits of jalapeño. Oh I’m also a sucker for what I think is a sour cream based potato salad. Helps keep the fork moving with all these fatty meats. THE BEST PIMENTO CHEESE with garlic seasoned crackers. The cheddar with the pimento peppers and whatever else magic is in there. I could eat a whole charcuterie board of this stuff. And I’m only here for the barbecue. Seeing and smelling the other food on the menu being served and taken to other tables made me drool. When people talk about hidden gems off the beaten path Blake’s at Southern Milling is...
