My kids have been begging to eat here since they first opened, but since it was a new restaurant, I made them wait, to try and give the place a change to get into their groove and work the kinks out. It seems we didn't wait long enough. I've heard a lot of positive reviews, so we fully expected to leave with a new restaurant on our list of favorites, but it just didn't live up to the expectations. A friend brought me a leftover slice of the Aunt Lou-Shele pizza a couple of weeks ago and it was amazing, so we knew going in what pizza we were going to order. And we've heard so much about the chicken-fried mozz that we wanted to try it as well. I don't know if the pizza was pulled from the oven too soon, or if it just sat in a cold spot in the oven (if that's even possible) but it reached our table as a mess. The cheese was cooked nicely, and smelled amazing, but the dough was almost raw. My 7-year-old, who will eat anything that even resembles pizza, wouldn't touch it after the first bite. We mentioned the issue to our waitress, who said she would see about remaking the pizza, but when she didn't return for 25 minutes, we gave up and went elsewhere. As for the chicken-fried mozz, I couldn't tell you a thing about it - we never received it. When the pizza was brought to the table, the waitress made a big show of telling us how busy she had been, and was working sooo hard, and explained that she must have forgotten it. We told her not to even worry about it at that point. This was such a disappointing experience. We knew we were going to love this place as much as we love Sammy's and The Grind, but we left after receiving undercooked food, being ignored by our waitress, and paying over $50 while not eating. A side note: I"m pretty sure we were still charged for the chicken-fried mozz we...
Read moreOK, Woodfire Pizza Kitchen is awesome. I’m sorry I haven’t tried them sooner. We wanted to give our kitchen a break and have an informal night out to unwind. WPK was the perfect spot. The atmosphere reminded me of a sports bar but without all the TVs and chaos. The owner definitely kept the historic vibe of the building. And not any if the seedy dive bar vibe the place had when it was the Stables. If you like bruschetta for an appetizer, you won’t go wrong ordering it here. Go ahead and ask for extra crostini (which were toasted perfectly) up front. The serving was beautifully presented and large and just right for two. 10/10 definitely recommend. The Tennessee Humidity pizza was amazing. I won’t tell you all of the ingredients, but this pie had just the right amount of heat mixed with just the right amount of sweet. I don’t know if it was the scratch made pizza sauce or the perfect crunch of the crust from the woodfire oven. But we just couldn’t get enough. I’m sure all of the pizzas are that delicious, but the Tennessee Humidity is my new favorite. To finish the night, the peach fried pies were perfect. If you don’t try these, you’re only cheating yourself. Our waitress was super friendly and she definitely earned her tip. All the waitstaff appeared to be college-aged and enthusiastic. There was a huge party from a recent peewee baseball game and the waitresses were so good with the kids who had their own table. We didn’t go upstairs to the bar and pinball lounge this time but it’s on our to-do list for a future excursion. All-in-all it was a perfect dining experience for a much needed night out on the town. You college kids who need to decompress and splurge a little, the...
