I really wanted to make this my regular coffee shop. It's a beautiful space and they created a great atmosphere to sit around and have conversations with friends, catch up on some work, or study for an exam.
The customer service has always been good, too. I've never had ridiculous wait times and nobody has ever been rude to me.
But I've been here several times now, and I always seem to leave disappointed.
I've had the caramel machiatto, the chai latte, the kim's cuban - and they all have the same bitter, watered down aftertaste. I'm not sure if it's from sub-par coffee beans or if they don't know how to pull a good espresso shot.
I've had the Tennessee Biscuit and Don's Bagel Sandwich, which both tasted like something from the freezer section that was microwaved. I've also had the homemade cinnamon rolls, which are actually pretty good if you like a bunch of icing.
One time, I ordered a hot drink and they told me that they could only make iced drinks at the time. I assume they subbed cold brew for the espresso. No big deal, but it was weird to go to a coffee shop and not be able to order a hot drink.
And yesterday, I bought a bag of coffee beans and a chemex pour-over. The girl working the register asked me if she could use the beans I bought to make my chemex. I thought it was weird, but I said sure, expecting some kind of discount on the chemex. But I was charged the full price - $27 for a bag of beans and a pour-over that wasn't good.
My main takeaway from my experiences at Martin Coffeehouse is that the quality of the product doesn't match the quality of the brand.
I walk in expecting a great experience, and always leave with a bitter taste...
Read moreGreat place if you're wanting a hip energetic vibe and Great food, good coffee, and mostly reasonable prices. The bowls are so worth trying!! Their avocado toast is expensive but speechlessly divine. I would be seriously addicted if it were more wallet friendly!!! I've had some inconsistent cafe drinks and food but still good with a few exceptions. The coffee is good but could be more robust, specifically the espresso- maybe it just needs consistency or variety in technique to make it taste less flat, perhaps a ristretto pull or something to that effect-but it IS good enough how it is. I'm not sure if they experience high turnover but it seems nearly every visit I hear the staff asking each other "how is [this] made"-which is a little confident wrecking on top of inconsistent quality. I do wish they had the flavor descriptions for their drinks on the menu! It would be ever so helpful for mood dependent coffee drinkers and would save everyone time when someone is asking about the different drinks, especially because the line can quickly get long and I've seen both the employees get annoyed with the questions or other customers getting frustrated with the wait time. The atmosphere is so cozy and relaxing, the plants provide a naturally calm and fresh energy and the books and decor add to the quaintness. A+ on the energy here! It is pretty family friendly as far as the seating area goes. However, I would be so thrilled to see a baby changing station in the bathroom and a kiddie stool so the small ones can easily wash...
Read moreI decided to change my review to 5 stars. I am happy to see you willing to refund my girlfriend’s order. It is not anything too serious, financial-wise. She loves the place and always visits when here when we go home to see her parents. I am sorry for being rude, that is not nice and while I disagree with your approach, I do see replies that indicate trolls on here. Thus, no hard feelings on my end and I understand why you may do that. I happen to enjoy the videos on social media, but my issue is that it would be wise to write a disclaimer that it’s a joke because many older folks may not catch that it’s a joke. That’s what I meant by shortcoming with marketing, but I went too far in personally attacking you and likely went too far giving 1 star. I’m always looking to support small business over Starbucks, especially at places my girlfriend loves to go to. Happy new year and best wishes to...
