Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Maryland

I rarely leave a bad review but...

This place has terrible service. Last night we waited over a half hour for our appetizer after we ordered it. Then we waiting another ten plus minutes after the appetizer was gone for our meal. When they served the meal, mine (bourbon chicken and shrimp) was missing the shrimp. We were told the shrimp were taking a long time to cook so they brought us the rest of the meal so it did not get cold. Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't shrimp cook much faster than chicken breast?

We finished our entire meal...and no shrimp. Finally after the plates were cleared they brought out the shrimp- which were nearly raw. I asked for a box figuring I could take them home and finish cooking them myself (defeating the purpose of eating out). We paid and after asking a second time (and waiting another ten minutes) for a box, we gave up.

Oh, and the silverware was super dirty. There were leafy greens on my knife. Not kidding . Actual leaves.

To be fair, they did not charge for the shrimp, but I really wanted them. It was like cake without icing. I wanted the good part.

The $1 margaritas have very little booze in them, but they are only a buck.

This is not the first time we have had issues here. A couple of months ago the lemon they put in our water was so rotten we could smell the funk coming from our water glass. They gave us a free soda, but really? Where is the health department when you need them.

I love Applebee's, just not this one. Too bad it's the only one in Frederick. It's sad. Even the Applebee's in middle-of-nowhere Cumberland Maryland has WAY better service...

Ate here on a Saturday early afternoon it was just me and my 2 younger girls. Decided to come here for the $1 margs and I thought it would be quick because we just spent the day at the pumpkin patch and didn’t want fast food. Well quick dinner was definitely not the word! Got there at 4:30 and was surprised at how empty the restaurant was on a Saturday. No one came and greeted us for about 10 mins. Not even 5 steps away from us there was at least 5 of the staff migrating at a round table. Someone finally noticed and took our drink order then another server came and asked for our drink order again then we got our drinks and ordered and maybe 5 mins after that another server came up and said she would actually be the one taking care of us. They did apologize but it was just strange to me. That 3 people took care of us and there was maybe a 10 tables in the restaurant waited a good 30 mins for our food we only got kids Mac and cheese, kids pizza, and I got two appetizers then the food runner gave us our food an apologize for the wait and told me quote there a mess back there… now I have waited tables for 10 years and would never say that to a table! We only saw our server twice. Then I asked her for a box and then asked about desert for the girls. She came back with a box and the check…. I was going to ask for a manager but the table behind us asked for one and one never came so that was that. Frederick City and it's surrounding areas have much better restaurants to enjoy than Applebee's. This an embarrassing restaurant to be in our great city of Frederick. I have dined with my family here on a few occasions. Tonight's dining experience was quite unpleasant. The only good thing I can honestly say with positivity would be that I admired our server's ability to handle an obviously out of control situation. She was overwhelmed with trying to serve a large area and large groups of diners. I felt great admiration for her due to her ability to keep smiling, maintain a professional behavior and serve her patrons well despite the fact that meals weren't coming out in a reasonable time. The water and ice served desperately needs a filtering system because it tasted as if it was collected from a dark and moldy cave ceiling. The Endless Boneless Wings advertised were "endless" time waiting to get them. They were tough, dry and the sauces were a disappointment. It's my opinion that our server deserved to receive the entire amount of the bill for herself. Server outstanding. Beverage, meal and dining experience really awful. Not interested in...
