My roommate and I visited Cafe Roma, for the first time, tonight. His coworkers highly recommended it to him; it didn’t disappoint! We were greeted and seated almost immediately. I ordered the Italian Wedding Soup, Caesar Salad, and Shrimp Scampi. The soup was exceptional. It didn’t have any of the tiny meatballs in it, which was a little weird, but I assume the “ladle” of soup I got just didn’t happen to have any in it. Regardless, I’m not complaining, because the broth was AMAZING. I would 100% order it again, and hope they add it to their menu permanently. The salad was also great. I loved their house made dressing, and the croutons were delicious. The shrimp scampi was the best I’ve EVER had. I’m not normally a fan of tomatoes, but the diced up tomatoes on/in that dish were to DIE for. The butter was also really yummy, and the shrimp were perfectly cooked, and bigger than the shrimp you’d find in most shrimp scampi dishes. They also leave just a little bit of the tail on, to retain the shrimp’s flavor. My roommate had the Crab Bisque, and the Shrimp and Scallops Alla Panna. He loved both. I’ve never seen him eat so much of a pasta dish that was such a large portion. This is also something worth pointing out; portions are large. I took home enough for another dinner, and my roommate enough for a nice lunch. They also serve really good, complimentary, house made bread. Loved it, but wish it would’ve been warmed. If I had one complaint, that would be it, but we both still thoroughly enjoyed it. Don’t forget to ask for some olive oil to dip it in! Oh, and a nice touch - they warm the butter, making it easier to spread on the bread. We will absolutely be coming back to this restaurant at least a couple times a month. We were beyond impressed with the food, service, and warm/inviting atmosphere! Thank you!
Visited this restaurant again, tonight, and was even more impressed! I got the lasagna, and my roommate got a pepper and sausage dish. Highly impressed. The service was so good that we tipped our server almost half the bill, which we rarely do at nicer restaurants, but he was more than worth it. I literally cannot recommend this place more highly! Ask for the “bread dip”, which isn’t on the menu, but they do sell, and it’s more than worth it! Same for their Burrata, which is the best I’ve ever had, by far!
We have been to this restaurant many times since I shared my initial review, and have yet to be disappointed in any way. If anything, the service has improved, which I didn’t think was possible. I’ve been to fancy restaurants in DC, NYC, and other places; the service here is as good, if not better, which never fails to shock me. That, alone, makes it worth the visit. This is coming from a fellow server, by the way. I agree with a previous reviewer that “looks can be deceiving”, and that this isn’t a “pizza joint” at ALL. This is a top notch, fine dining Italian restaurant, with authentic Italian dishes, BEYOND exceptional service, and a very intimate/romantic yet inviting ambiance. If you haven’t given this restaurant a chance, you’re only doing yourself a disservice.
If you’re like my roommate and I, and you’re looking for a genuine positive review to convince them (and yourself, secretly) where you should eat tonight, because you’re both indecisive but they want you to decide, let this be your answer. You...

A simple search on Google Maps for “authentic pizza” brought us to this once known around the corner here in Hagerstown, MD previously as “Tony’s” BUT not any longer!!
NOPE! Folks, Cafe Roma Ristorante replaced “Tony’s” on March 2, 2023 “AND” is a true hidden gem right here on this corner off Pennsylvania Avenue.
As society will do by its own failures, judging a book by its cover, folks if you continue to pass by this “GEM” of a restaurant based on merely its outside let me be one of the patrons who is bold enough to share with you just what a mistake you are making passing this restaurant by.
As aforementioned, we were searching for authentic pizza and well, if I had to compare it to searching for fine jewelry this is how best to describe it … a simple search for an amethyst brought us to a cave filled with diamonds!!
We walked inside expecting to view a menu of merely pizza and wings which to our surprise was more than four pages of fresh pasta dishes, and more than that. It also included fresh seafood as well with baby octopus, calamari, scallops, crab, lobster, shrimp and so much more.
The dessert menu was even more delightful as well. Let me just add, did we order pizza? Of course, that was our take out order!! We first had to try the seafood platter pasta and the chicken parmigiana which simply sounded scrumptious and too enticing to pass up!!
Since that visit, we have ordered the pizza twice from Door Dash along with the lasagna! If you really want authentic italian food that is even as delicious cold as it is hot, this is the your place! Cafe Roma has become our favorite...
