The Grille at Runways — Restaurant in Maryland

Been there twice due to work. The good thing about the place is the food and atmosphere. It doesn't matter what you order, the food is good and servings are appropriate so no complaints there. Almost every table gives you a clear view of the planes which is the main attraction and you also don't have to wait for long to get a seat even during lunch. Now when it comes to service, it depends who you are. Both times I was the only Black person there and I got that familiar look of "what are they doing here?". I just overlooked it because I had no choice, my manager took us there. However the young server was very nice so it made up for the front desk experience. Now the 2nd time, I had to take lead since we where taking our new boss there (my stupid recommendation). Dealt with the gruff nature of the woman seating diners but boy was I in for a surprise with the older server. She flat out refused to talk to me! No acknowledgement whatsoever! Was overly friendly with my white counterparts, constantly refilling their drinks even when it wasn't necessary. Heck, they even had to request a to-go box for me. I wouldn't necessary recommend the place for Black folks or patronize the place as that's not who they cater to but if you're the opposite, I know you'll have a...

It really sucks to leave this review. I have loved this restaurant for years but I regret to outline the experience we’ve just had under the management of Heather. As soon as we began our evening I was served a beer, upon the first sip of said beer I pulled from my mouth a quarter sized bit of MOLD. Now this is I’m sure due to inadequate tap line maintenance which usually is the responsibility of the beer distributor. The problem really begins with heather (also the bartender this evening) attempting to play off the mold via the very polite waitress as “yeast” heather poured me another beer from the same tap and had it delivered to me. I made a request to speak with her 2 times. Both times completely unanswered. All I wanted was to have the tap closed to protect the health of other patrons but I went ignored. In fact heather was out and about to many other tables but made a point to ignore ours. The steaks were completely unseasoned as well but honestly not the real issue here. Heather outlined she simply does not care about the patrons of this establishment which is a damn shame. I hope this does not fall on deaf ears and she is dealt with appropriately and the restaurant finds its way back on track but with management like this I can’t imagine it going...

Second time here, first for my partner. I ordered the Caper and Dill salad with grilled salmon. Perfectly cooked salmon and great salad with Asiago, capers, mixed greens. It was a generous helping that I thought I wouldn’t finish. I ate every last bit. My partner ordered a burger and requested medium well, informed our server that he frequently didn’t get what he requested so he said he hoped it would be cooked to his preference. Our server assured us it will be cooked to my partner’s satisfaction. Sadly, when he cut into his burger to check, it was medium rare - good char on the outside but 2:1 ratio of pink vs cooked. We informed our server and he offered a small plate for my partner to put the two pieces of the burger patty on to be taken back to the kitchen and placed back on the grill. It came back closer to medium well, my partner reassembled his burger and he declared it very good. That’s the one star off for food which otherwise tasted good in the end.
