6/25/24 Update: Made a special trip out here for the Firehouse sub name of the day promotion. Mind you, I haven't been here since I posted my last review. Arrived at 4:26 to see this sloppy handwritten sign on the door, saying their hours are 11am-4pm. And the door was locked. According to their printed hours (on the door, on the app, on the website, on Google... Pretty much EVERYWHERE), they should have been open until 9pm. So obviously 4pm is a massive cop-out and no explanation given. This was the last straw for me. Definitely will not be back. What's more is that the last dozen or so reviews all point to a larger problem that needs to be addressed... Whoever is replying to the reviews clearly DOES NOT CARE. So many of us have sent additional information as requested and heard nothing back, and clearly nothing is being done to improve the situation at this location. Do not bother coming here.
What has happened to this location? It used to be great, but it has gone downhill. I've waited a few trips to write a review and see if it was just a fluke, but apparently it isn't. All the employees look like they hate their lives, not to mention they're loudly using foul language while talking among themselves (using the f word and n word). They're out of white bread in large size as well as no pork. One of the two coca cola freestyle machines is out of order and the one that is working has most of the flavors unavailable. Several fluorescent lights in the kitchen are out, and there's no music, and none of the tvs are on. I just overheard the staff tell a customer that his sub wasn't ready because the meatballs were thawing. Wow. Almost got charged for three subs when we only ordered two. If we hadn't been paying attention, we would have. Gave a receipt with a survey code for a free drink and the guy who rang us up acted like he had no idea what that was. Read moreEdit for 2021 I think they changed a lot of the staff. They definitely changed how they make a sub. The option for "light" condiments (mayo, dressing, etc) has been removed from the online and app platforms and they use at least twice as much. Because I can't ask them not to? Because no one told them that it's to enhance a flavor and not be a flavor? No idea. Four times now, my bread was literally so soggy with mayonnaise that I couldn't eat it.
And yes, I do still try them now and again because I hope they go back to being awesome. *Original Review We first discovered Firehouse Subs when visiting family in Virginia. We were thrilled to find a location not too far from our house. Everything tastes fresh, the breads are soft, the meats flavorful. We've starting ordering larges so we have leftovers for the next day. My daughter has declared that she could eat this every day.
We find this location to be far superior to the Laurel location as far as customer service and professionalism. Even the menu selection for takeout is better.
They are communicative about problems, and have called me when unable to fulfill an item in my order, and offered replacements. Staff have always been friendly. I guess they have opened up to in person dining now; judging by the reviewer from last month who complained about dirty tables. I have not experienced this; but I always order for takeout. I haven't noticed dirty tables while waiting though, so maybe it was just a one off. All staff wear masks.
There is a lot of meat on a normal sub; I was surprised to see one of the customization options was 'double meat' because I don't think it would fit! I hope they have...
Read moreWhen I first walked in, I am always nice to everyone i see so i made eye contact with the young black man there and said hi and he just looked at me like i was a problem or something, i ignored it and waited at the register for 10 whole minutes (no one else was in there so they just let me sit there until they decided they wanted to work again) before a young white man with a “man” bun came out and he greeted me the exact same way the other man did. Extremely cold and felt like i was bothering them that i was there. My co worker that was with me ended up going somewhere else when he realized how rude they treat their customers. Workers here make you feel extremely unwelcome and are very short, cold and rude. They were also cussing up a storm at each other while making my sub and it was very obvious they both hate their jobs. I will never be back to this place again. Highly disappointed. It takes absolutely no effort to atleast be nice to the people you are serving. I went in and was met with INSTANT rudeness by the young black man working, then INSTANT rudeness again by the young white man with the nappy looking “man” bun. This is unacceptable how they treat people and should not be working with the public if they have such a problem with people that have done nothing wrong to them. If you ask me and I was the owner of this shop, i would fire them for not only being rude, but they are terrible at working.
