Keep in mind that this is a fast food place, but for a fast food carryout, it's really good. I was looking for an alternative to Popeye's as I was getting tired of it and found this little place. There are several reasons this little carryout stands out, and why you should give it a try. · They offer a lot of choice that is not available anywhere else. The chicken livers and gizzards, are great in their cornmeal based batter. They are the only place where you get you choice of Ocean Perch, Whiting, Lake Trout, Catfish, Tilapia, and Shrimp for carryout seafood; again done in their signature cornmeal batter and deep fried. Even the fries are good. They are thick, which I generally don't like, but since they are thick, they don't turn soggy as so many other places fries do. Nothing is worse that French fries that taste like they've been steamed. · Fast food without massively cutting corners. · Price is comparable to Popeye's and other major fast food franchises, but the quality is better. · Staff is friendly and attentive.
The only downside is that the business is located in one of those "cursed" locations. You probably know what I'm talking about, one of those locations where businesses come and go, sometimes before they even open. In this case it is the difficulty getting to and from the location that has contributed to the downfall of every business that has occupied this site. You can see the location from Rt. 40, but you can only get into the parking lot from Southbound 152 (where Mountain Road turns into Magnolia Road). You can only exit the parking lot going Southbound on 152 because a barrier in the road prevents you from returning from whence you came. Apparently the problem the barrier creates is so pronounced that one of the driveways down the road has a sign threatening violence to anyone using it to turn around.
With that said, I'd encourage you to give this little carryout a try. It's worth the detour to get good fish and chicken at prices that will not bankrupt the budget for a week. I really would like this business to break the curse of this location, it's so refreshing to see southern cuisine choices on a...
Read moreI wish I could put a 0. This place used to have great customer service. When I went today, I got a small fry and asked them to remake it because there was an eyelash or a short piece of hair in my food. After going back and forth with the cashier saying he doesn’t believe me (although he saw that the fries were barely touched), he continuously said I was trying to get over for a 2 dollar fry that wasn’t eaten. Then continued to SNATCH the bag out of my hand and throw it away and still declined to provide me with a fresh order of fries. He even tried to say it couldn’t be anyone’s hair in the store although the lady that put the seasonings (whom he tried to say wasn’t working but I was there when she put the seasonings on the fries) on the fries, had long lashes that could’ve fallen off. During all of this, I was kind and pleasant to every single one of the employees. I even told him that we’re human and we can’t control some factors such as hair falling in the food but he still continued to say he doesn’t believe me. Then, once I get upset that I’m being told no and got my food taken from me, I started to get threatened by the cashier! This is a despicable location and that cashier doesn’t deserve to work in nothing with...
Read moreHipHop Fish & Chicken in Joppatowne will never receive any business from me again. I walked into the facility, said hello to the other customers, read the bright read menu board and went to the counter to order my food. I ordered my food, received my change, dropped the coins in the tip jar and said thank you. The young man taking my order who spoke English suddenly began speaking in his native language to the other 3 workers which caused them to look my way, roll their eyes and laugh. At this point, I politely asked for my money back. The employee asked me why and I told him that he should be careful what he says about people because some of us are wearing translation earbuds. He then proclaimed that what he said wasn't about me but about someone else. I again politely asked for my money back and he returned my money while still pleading his case. I also took my coins out of the tip jar. I have no idea if the food is good at this location. What I do know is that I will only spend my money where I feel welcome and that excludes HipHop Fish & Chicken...
