I so badly wish I could give Mi Pueblo (Glen Burnie MD) a 5 star rating because the food is amazing. However, tonight (our 2nd time at the restaurant) we were approached by a young man with a cart, offering to make us guacamole. My boyfriend asked the cost and the man said nothing and waved his hand, gesturing "no fee." My boyfriend said, "it's free?" And the man said "it's good." So, we accepted and tipped him $6 as a thank you. We were thinking this was a nice addition to the salsa and complimentary chips. WRONG!
Our waitress, a young Hispanic girl with a long ponytail, paid way more attention to other tables and we waited for drink refills and the chance to order dessert. Not a huge deal, but I recommend the leadership remind servers to equally check on all guests.
When it came time for the bill, I confirmed with our waitress that the guacamole was free and she scoffed, saying "the only free things here are the water and chips." She also made a point to tell us that "avocados are expensive" since we must look like we don't know food costs. We calmly explained that the man who made the guacamole said nothing about a cost and we inquired about it with him twice. Additionally, the cart did not have a pricing sheet anywhere. She looked at us as if we were attempting to scam the restaurant out of $10.50 for the guacamole. She said "well it seems like you didn't communicate correctly with him," suggesting we didn't say the right words! At that point, I requested the owner because it was not communicated nor did the cart have any pricing signage.
The owner, Juan, came to speak with us and again we explained the issue. I pointed out to Juan that there was a security camera right above our table and told him we'd wait while they viewed the footage of the interaction with the guacamole salesperson/chef. Juan, thankfully, said it was no problem and we wouldn't be charged. Thank you Juan!
Mi Pueblo, please provide clear signage for additional add-ons because we left your establishment feeling as if we were viewed as $10.50 scammers. If there is a language barrier inhibiting the proper discussion over price, having a simple sign would solve this issue. And to our waitress, please be kinder to your guests, especially those who tip very very well for exceptional dining experiences.
To the kitchen staff, thank you! Everything was delicious and cooked perfectly with excellent presentation. Well done!
We have decided that we'll return to Mi Pueblo sometime as the food is delicious and Juan's adjustment to our bill was the right thing to do in this situation. Next time, we'll pass on the...
Read moreMan I hate to give such a poor review but they have lots to learn about running a resturant. So the wife and I walk in and it's full so we ask how long is the wait. The shy host saids it's 15 to 20 minutes tops. The wife and I looked at each other and accepted. Why not, the host knows the average timing it takes for a couple to be done. Well she did not neither did the managers and everyone else that works there. After 45 minutes of waiting I was able to gather everyone's business including the poorly ran establishment. 60% of the seats was being taken by a teenage girls sports club. All they were having was the free chips and water. Another booth had 2 guys playing chess and not eating. I could not figure out if I was at a Hilton convention or at Starbucks trying to use free internet. The wife and I looked at eachother and decided to just take our losses and bail out. I approached the host gave her my #41 and told her in Spanish that our patience has ran out and thanks for wasting our time. I got no response nor an explanation.
A bit of an advice to Mi Pueblito; if you let customers run your business who knows how long you will own that establishment for. I'll be damned if someone else will run me down. I can do that myself by tossing out none paying cistomers. I'll keep my eyes open for an out of business sign. I know you have been trying to finish their new place next to the Mattress Firm store across from the Buick and Subaru dealer down the street. The reason I say trying is because it's been under construction for over 2 years now. Very dissapointed to predict their failure and see it happen every day as I...
Read moreI stopped at Mi Pueblo today because my flight home was delayed, and so I had time to do a little exploring before returning to the airport. Just went next door to Glen Burnie and found this restaurant. This restaurant has nice and bright colors and just enough decor to create a good atmosphere for a Mexican restaurant. The music was also at the right volume, so you can enjoy it without drowning out your conversation. While they have a good lunch menu with a good variety of dishes, I ended up ordering the full-sized burrito tapatio and an order of the spicy tomatillo salsa. The tomatillo salsa definitely delivers on the spice, but not too intense. You can also pick up the tartness of the tomatillo as well. If you have the spice tolerance, this is a good valued appetizer. The burrito tapatio is essentially their carnitas burrito. The full-sized burrito has plenty to go around with its generous portions and a generous side of rice. The pork was nice and mild but still flavorful - that tomatillo salsa would go good with this pork. There was also just the right amount of refried beans, and the queso that smothers the burrito is probably some of the best I've had in a long while. If I'm back here, I definitely want a bowl of this stuff. My only critique with my visit is that the service for refills was a little slow. Knowing me, that was likely self-inflicted because I had the spicy salsa. Also, as a note, they do prefer if you pay cash, noting a service charge if you pay by card. Overall, though, I enjoyed Mi Pueblo and would come back if I am back in...
