Definitely not a spot for a business dinner.
In my job role I set up hundreds of dinners a year for medical device presentations. This being said, I have never felt so swindled by a restaurant.
Nick's Airport Inn has a nice atmosphere, good service, and decent food, however, the lack of customer service from an administrative stand point will definitely leave a bad taste in your mouth.
Most restaurants that I deal with have you sign contracts outlining the details of the event you are trying to hold. These include food and beverage minimums, room charges, and AV equipment charges. This being said, I never signed a PDF contract. I knew that we would need to pay a room fee of $250 and $75 for a screen based on the phone conversations we had. The kicker is that our group size dropped from 15 people to looking like closer to five. When I called in to let them know our expected value, they said that they would be able to set our table for a larger party in case we had last minute associates that had not RSVP'd. What they failed to mention is that we would get charged for a full dinner for unconfirmed guests. When I tried to call in and explain my frustrations, I was met with condescension and crass behavior. The woman on the line talked to me like I was a five year old child and had no empathy for my situation or patience to greater explain the charges to me. Realizing that there was no hope for service I let it go, getting charged $969.50 for a dinner for four people.
The lack of customer service at this institution is astounding and you can bet that we will not be using or recommending this restaurant...
Read moreMy husband and I went to Nick's last night for our anniversary and everything about the experience was excellent. I had wanted to try this restaurant for quite a while and when my husband suggested it, I felt excited to eat there. Upon arrival, we were asked if we had a reservation and when we answered no, the Maitre D' looked put out; however after some consultation, we were seated. The restaurant seemed half empty at the time and we wondered about it, but by the time we left we were surprised to see that it had filled up, including several prom parties. We were fortunate to have gone so early or we might not have been seated. I noticed later that all dining areas were very full, including the bar area in the sunroom. Our server was excellent and all hands were on deck helping out in the full dining room. She was attentive and not overbearing, glasses were refilled when needed and dishes were taken after being emptied. I ordered a couple of cocktails, which were mixed perfectly. The food was excellent, we had the blue crab fingers for appetizers, I wasn't sure what to expect, but they were crab claws that we could just dip and eat the meat off of, very clever. We both ordered prime rib, which was cooked to perfection. I got mine with the oscar style addition, which was asparagus and crab meat with bernaise sauce. It was delicious, not really a lot of crab meat, but I was glad I got it. My husband got the mashed potatoes, which he said was good. Our salads were delicious and fresh and all in all, we enjoyed our evening and meal. I look forward to going back in the future and would...
Read moreA coworker of mine said she loves Nick’s, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered French Onion Soup, salad, a filet mignon, Mediterranean rice, and crème brûlée. The soup was good. The filet mignon was not good. It was not “throwing up bad” but it was not worth the $40 at all. In fact, I would be ashamed to serve it. It was flat, dry, and worst of all, cold. Not even warm. It was presented to me at room temperature, and the rice was just as cold. The crème brûlée was edible, nothing special. Dozens of other places in the area blow this place away on steaks. I love steak and was hoping this would be good, but I will probably go to my go-to Black Rock at the mall, for an always-perfect ribeye the next time I go out for dinner. My partner had the prime rib. Also cold and unimpressive. The atmosphere was good. Unlike other Hagerstown restaurants, there were no baseball caps on backwards, no inappropriately loud laughter or conversation, no purposely ripped, too-tight jeans on women who think those rags make them look good, no tank tops, and no exposed chest hair. The clientele actually looked elegant. So, it deserves at least a four for that category. The food, less than mediocre. The best thing I can say is that at least it did not make me sick. The only way I would go back is if someone else was paying and really, really wanted...
