I had dinner here on a recent trip to Baltimore.
While the food was good what I found the most disappointing was the way I was treated by some of the staff. I have a medical service dog who obviously goes everywhere with me. My first issue was where they seated us. We were seated at a table where there was really nowhere for her to be that was out of the way. I don't think they could have seated us at a more inappropriate table. Within just a few minutes of us being seated a member of the staff came up and asked me to move her to the other side of my chair which I did and I will concede that he was very nice and apologetic when he did so.
Later in our meal a different staff member came up to the table and asked me to move her again. This person was actually borderline rude and frankly, I was less inclined to be gracious about obliging them.
My service dog is properly trained and knows how to behave in a restaurant. When she is doing her job and behaving exactly the way she should I should not be forced to accommodate a restaurant whose host/hostess doesn't have enough sense to seat me at a table where she will be out of the way of the staff and people who are walking by. If they didn't have a more appropriate table available right away they could have explained the situation and asked us to wait a little while perhaps offering us a drink at the bar for the inconvenience until one became available. I would have been more than happy to have waited with or without the drink and I would have appreciated the consideration being afforded to both me and my dog.
The other thing to know about this restaurant is that it's extremely loud. If you're looking for a more intimate experience either romantically or even just out with friends who you want to sit and chat with easily then this probably isn't the best choice.
I was in Baltimore for several weeks and during my trip I had the choice to either dine here again or go back to another restaurant I'd eaten at earlier in my trip and I chose the other restaurant just because I really didn't enjoy my...
Read moreIs 0 stars an option? Negative stars? Let me tell you about my experience which was my first time ever at Tarks. Always read the bad reviews first and save yourself the money and trouble. I walked in with my family and no one greeted me for 20 mins. 20 mins of customers staring at you shocked by no available host in sight. Should have walked out. But we stayed through that humiliation and embarrassment. What a bad choice. We get a waitress with black hair who slammed all of our waters down leaving a visible water mark on the table. That should have been strike one. Then she literally drops my mom's plate because she passed it to her so quickly with her aggressiveness it almost fell off the table into my mom's lap. Can you say strike two? Then my mom gets a burnt bun for her chicken sandwich and the waitress does not apologize and does not give her a new bun or have them remake it. The agony and disrespect of this place. Seems like no training. Strike three.
Then we call to complain to the rudest manager Charles who dares to yell at a woman, my mom. He has no manners and who knew you could still have a job behaving in that way? Who knew that's what the owners were looking for when they hired him? How costly and shocking considering all of the customers they allowed him to lose when I read each bad review. How shameful to allow that man to be talking to customers the way he has. He and the owners should apologize to every customer they offended. He has no right to mistreat a customer like that. I read some reviews of customers bolting from Tarks to the Valley Inn, Bluestone, and Michaels Cafe. Funny that his behavior caused a loss of business from customers and that he told customers to leave after they complained, per their right. His loss of many customer's was actually the customer's win. A win of never being disrespected again and a saving of their hard earned cash. What a nice end to this horror story of customer's bad experiences. I will heed the warning of customers before me who wrote...
Read morePosting a negative review for the very first time in my life. My friend & I had a terrible experience here. We were out for the first time since COVID for her birthday on 7/2. Our server was great, food was good. But, after we ordered dessert for her birthday a man, who later identified himself as “the boss,” told us in a very crude way that we had 10 minutes left of our 2 hour time slot. I asked if we could finish our dessert that we just ordered & he condescendingly repeated that we had 10 minutes left. The waitress came over & he told her in front of us QUOTE don’t waste your time with them- I already told them they need to wrap it up. When I pointed out that tables who had gotten there before us were not being asked to leave, he told me not to worry about them. Not sure what the problem was but whoever was “the boss” on the patio on Friday, July 2nd in the evening needs considerable customer service training. Could we have been more aware of the 2 hour slot? Absolutely (like I mentioned, it was both of our 1st time out since covid so we were just blissfully unaware, which is our fault). Could he have approached us respectfully and like human beings? One hundred percent- in fact, it’s his job to be an EXAMPLE of customer service as he is “the boss.” Could they ask their staff to let customers know about the 2 hour slot? Without a doubt- this might solve this problem in the future. We won’t be back here & have shared this experience with our friends & family because during a time where people are trying to re-enter some type of normalcy after the pandemic, I want my friends & family to experience respect and an enjoyable experience. Not whatever this was. Such a shame- I loved Tarks until this experience. Hence this being our choice for our first time at a restaurant...
