I was driving through the area looking for someplace to grab a bite to eat. I did not want to eat at a national chain. I was looking for a good local spot. I drove past Villagers Cafe and had to turn around. The restaurant is in a small wood frame building that looks like it was a residence at one time. When I walked in I was greeted by one of the staff. She was bringing food to another customer as I walked in. I grabbed a seat and looked over the menu. They had burgers, seafood, and a number of po-boys. The special today was fried catfish. I decided that sounded like a good deal. I ordered fries and a IBC Root beer. I ordered at the counter and the lady said it would be right out. There are only about 6-7 tables in the restaurant. It was down home and very inviting. My food came out pretty quick. The fries caught me by surprise. They were cut flat circles. I love potatoes cooked like that but was not expecting it. If two people are eating one order of fries is plenty. The po-boy was very good. The French bread was fresh! Dressed with mayo. The catfish was hot and well seasoned. I could only eat half my po-boy and half the fries. Saved the rest for dinner. Next time I am in the area will definitely be dining at...
Read moreDon't let the size of this place fool you, that pack in the flavor! They are known for their poboys, but their salads are unbelievably great, too! For seafood lovers, you can't go wrong with the fried shrimp. Pot roast seems to be a crowd favorite, but I love the Club Supreme - it's a traditional deli meat trio with the pot roast gravy added on top! It's not as messy as it sounds. It's perfectly balanced. They have poboy specials each day so you can get a discounted sandwich and try something new. The halves are really like 3/4 of a whole it seems, so it's a huge value. Don't skip on the fresh-cut fries. They are shaped like little guitar picks and are fried in a way that leaves some tender and soft and others super crispy. Then they toss them with a seasoning mix. They also have soft drinks in glass bottles and tons of memorabilia to check out while you wait. You can eat on the porch outside or even get your meal from the drive-thru window, just make sure and call ahead....
Read moreSo this was an interesting little place, and I mean little! Love the crazy decor. The menu was decent for a cafe but was surprised with all of the sandwiches there wasn’t a burger. I had the Villager poor boy. The bread was a good poor boy bread with thin sliced ham and beef with a little gravy and veggies. Some places have horrible bread. The fries were unique, never saw them cut that way but they were crispy and tasted great. It’s a busy in and out kinda place, I wouldn’t recommend sitting around after a meal chit chatting. Service was ok, the server was very nice but because of the size of the place she literally was handling every table herself. If you want a lot of attention from your server this isn’t the place for you. We had enough attention to get the job done but it was a little slow since it was packed and people waiting outside. Overall a good...
