Update 12/2023:
As always, another fabulous time at Lardo. This restaurant is seriously underrated. There’s nothing quite like one of their 1/3 pound, 100% ground beef patties with their signature Lardo fries (the best cut EVER) dipped in delicious house made fry sauce.
On my most recent drop-in, husband and I ordered the Ranch Hand Burger (fried egg, Canadian bacon, salsa, $15.49) and the Jalapeño Burger (with Swiss, $15.49). He said his burger was delicious. There was a decent amount of salsa, so it was pretty messy but the combination of the egg and bacon with juicy burger was unbeatable. My jalapeños didn’t quite pack the punch like it had previously, but overall it was still very, very yummy, especially with a lil dab of their fry sauce. I swear this is the best version I have yet to have. Can’t wait to be back again very soon!
06/2020:
I could go on and on about how much I absolutely love Lardo's Grill & Saloon. Like I could probably write an entire freaking book about it I love this place so much. The food, the service, the atmosphere. This place has got it all.
We'll start with the atmosphere. Awesome. You walk right in and typically get seated right away. The interior of the building looks rather run down and cluttery, like an old barn house, but that's the aesthetic and it adds to the experience.
Servers are always very kind. They check on you enough when you need more fry sauce (which I could rave about all day) but not too much to where you can actually enjoy your meal. If something is wrong, they'll take it back right away and fix it for you.
Finally, there is nothing more satisfying, more delicious, than a juicy thick hamburger and fries drenched in fry sauce after a week long backpacking trip in the mountains. Each and every bite of the burgers I get here is like meeting God. I mean, really. It's that freaking awesome. I've had nearly all the burgers on the menu, most recent had a bacon burger that brought me back to life and a jalapeño chicken sandwich that not only filled me up but cleared my sinuses. Hands down my favorite eatery in little McCall.
I am looking forward to further experiences at Lardo's. I think I may need to try some of that spaghetti that looks...
Read moreStopped by on a Sunday afternoon, on a trip between Lewiston and Boise with my 3 children, who are 16, 4 and 6. We were coming from a funeral, hungry and exhausted. We were there mid afternoon - definitely not a busy time. I almost left when it took them 15 minutes to bring us water and menus, another 15 minutes to come take our order, and almost 30 minutes to get our food, which we promptly boxed up to eat on the road because we'd been there for an hour at that point and my 4 and 6 year old were stir crazy and starving. She took my credit card to go settle the outrageous $58 bill (4 meals and 2 drinks), and 10 minutes later still wasn't back yet, so I went to the front counter to see what was taking so long. They told me it seemed that they couldn't process card transactions - communication issues - and asked if I had cash. I did not have cash, or the means to obtain it, since my bank account was running low from our trip and I don't have a PIN to get cash advances from my credit card via an atm. They advised me they would keep trying and they'd let me know when the card machine was communicating with the server again. My kids ate their food and we waited. TWENTY minutes goes by. NO ONE checked on us or came to give us an update. Despite the fact that this was totally outside my control, they seemed to expect that I wait there until they resolved their issues. My kids were acting up and I started to cry. So my teenage daughter asked for my keys and disappeared. She returned 10 minutes later with the cash needed to pay our bill that she took out of her own account. Not the SLIGHTEST apology from management, the wait staff. No attempts to minimize our discomfort during our long wait. I put this in my top 2 for worst dining experiences ever.
I won't even mention the bathroom situation. It didn't need any more help destroying...
Read moreWe had the male waiter that was approx. in his 50's short and slight build. When he came to our table we asked for seperate checks. He was rude stating "what, u 2 don't know each other well enough to have the same check?" He was so rude and angry when he took our order, my wife asked for a glass of Malbec wine, I asked for a rootbeer with our order. He brought back a glass of white wine and ignored us when we were calling him over. I had to bring the wine to him, told him my wife asked for a glass of Malbec. That wine is red, not white. He grabbed the wine from my hand and retorted " I know that!" When he brought the Malbec to my wife he slammed the glass down and spilled the wine on the table. When I asked him for a refill of rootbeer, he shook his head no and walked away. He came over before we were finished our dinner, asking if we needed anything else. I asked for a refill of rootbeer. He snapped at me saying "just because u have free refills doesn't mean I'm at your beck and call to give them to you. I replied "yes, that's your job" as he quickly walked away. I had to ask the bus boy for a refill. I told him our waiter refused to get me one to which he apologized and got me the rootbeer. The waiter came back later to take my plate, grabbed it and threw some food in my lap. He said "oh sorry." He had very passive aggressive behavior. When he came back with the check he slammed it down on the table saying " I took the meals off and only charged you for the drinks so u only have 1 check"! I have never had such a horrific experience in a restaurant. My wife and I are elderly and have gone to Lardos numerous times, always having a pleasant experience. This was a nightmare. All the other staff were very pleasant but our waiter appeared angry, frustrated ,and down right disrespective and abusive. Worst dining experience I...
