Kind of a little hole in the wall place. Drove past it twice because I couldn't see their sign near the top of the strip mall type facade. So it's a little bit of a higher effort to find. Food was freshly cooked to order and tasted like what it was actually supposed to be for the most part. Personally I believe such is a somewhat rare thing for establishments similar to this one. Shrimp was a top recommendation from me. The sausage po-boy though, the sausage tasted about like the spices were not correct. If you've ever had a Gyro then you'll recognize the meat taste. Again it wasn't bad just unexpected. The down side of the whole thing was the drinks on offer. Cans only (only Coke products) or bottled water. If you drink it all before you get your food, have to buy another. It was also edging towards uncomfortably warm inside the building, I believe due largely to age of the building's AC system and that on the particular day it was easily 100+f. Hot day, old AC equipment, non partitioned kitchen, yeah warm inside could be expected. Overall the experience will put good tasting food in your belly and maybe make for a local flavor kind of story to anyone passing through. Not super awesome but not "I can't be drunk enough to come here again". Basically this: Are you hungry? Do you have some money but the place that sells gut grenades by the sack full seems like a punishment too far for your intestines? This place...
Read moreLet me first say, the food here is amazing and authentic. With Louisiana being my second home for the past 16 years, I've had some of the best the state has to offer...and on the bayou is spot on.
So why not five stars, you ask? Because we all know it's not just about the food. My first gripe is with many of their menu items being unavailable when I got there. There was no oysters available (a staple for a fried poboy restaurant), no gumbo and a few other menu items were out. This was my first visit, so I've learned a simple phone call in advance might save me a trip next time (or at least set my expectations), but not something you want to learn as a first experience.
The other issue I have is with their crazy operating hours. It seems they're closed for most of the week and even when open, it's only for a few hours.
So, if you'll notice, these complaints are from someone who really LOVES their food, and simply wants more, lol. The staff was actually very friendly and accommodating and I just hope they do well and stay around. We will definitely be back again (albeit after we make an advanced phone call and confirm they...
Read moreMisleading and deceiving. I ordered a fried rib plate and they gave me cut up over fried pork chop for $20+. I know my meats and I did not have ribs. Fried pork chop is not on the menu. I really wanted to try out fried ribs, I’ll cook it myself. No cornbread muffin to eat with my greens so I threw them away. They gave only a small portion of regular macaroni and cheese. On my seafood platter they gave me smushed up onion rings and I had to throw them away. My hush puppies were missing and they charged me close to $30 and was missing oysters (replaced for 6 additional small shrimp) that tasted “okay”. They had just opened and did not have any seafood macaroni, red beans and rice, cornbread muffins, hush puppies, or oysters that was displayed on the menu. I will not return. I am a foodie from Louisiana and...
