Meat & Potato Eatery-McHenry — Restaurant in McHenry

Well this will be the last time I ever eat here again,🥺. I ordered a chicken gyro thinking it was off the spit like the one I'd had a few years ago. It wasn't! It just regular chicken chopped up so much you could barely see it Amon the ton of shredded lettuce and two barely slices of tomato! To top it off. The chicken, when I tasted it, was plain with no seasoning! The pita, even when I ordered mine dry. Was somewhat soggy in the middle. The waffle fries we ordered were so undercooked. They were also not salted after frying. So those were plain n tasteless as well. We put them in the oven at home. If I knew I had to do that, I would've just made a chicken. Bought pita bread and frozen fries and done it myself! What a disappointment! RIP to the chicken gyro off a spit, like they do the regular gyro! Plus, they overcharge for one. It's around $10 for a gyro (regular one) when we can go elsewhere for the same cheaper! Which we will be doing...

Only time here, got a cheeseburger and wake fries. Burger was fine, but also the least interesting looking thing in the menu - I got it as a quality benchmark and it was good. The waffle fries lacked salt but were otherwise good - it's pretty hard to screw up waffle fries unless you're chick-fil-a. Food prep time was a little slow, possible because of a lot of go-orders since it was like 5pm. Prices were high side of average and the drink cups were pretty small but the combo deal made the pop effectively free.

Everything was clean, including the very clean bathroom. My only complaint is their poorly enforced mask use. One of the staff's mask keep skipping off their nose (trust the bands before looping them around the ears) but the back of house staff weren't wearing masks AT ALL while making the food. Was driving thru on our way to 6 flags. Family ordered food but i just picked at the fries. I enjoyed what i tasted. My kids dad thought his gyro was average. My sons burger was pretty standard. Daughters hot dog was decent. She loved the potatoes per usual. Overall? Id say for the name of the place focusing on meat n potatoes it wasnt all that special BUT taken into consideration of what my party ordered i wouldny expect too much. Ida ordered the pot roast if i were hungier. But the reason im giving more than less stars overall is becuz i was totally blown away by the politeness of the staff. They were so cool. So nice. Extra polite. Gracious. Just very likable people. It made me want to work there. If i lived closer im sure id make it a staple in my life as it has a pretty full menu n cool dessert options....
