El Vallarta — Restaurant in McKenzie

Met friends there for dinner as it was sorta midway for us and we thought it had the most diverse menu.

Several things went wrong but the server gets most the credit. Ordering was very complicated because none of us spoke Spanish and the server didn't speak enough English to answer questions that couldn't be resolved by pointing at the menu.

My husband ordered a steak which comes with 2 sides. The server never asked how he wanted it cooked and when it came out it was very well done, tough, and missing a side.

One of our friends had ordered a salad which she wanted to add chicken to but we couldn't explain to add chicken to the salad and not add a bowl of chicken soup so she gave up. When the salad arrived it was a heaping handful of chopped lettuce with one slice slice not wedge) of tomato, 2 slices of orange, and 6 shrimp on the side. When she explained she wasn't paying $12 for that tiny pile of food he took her plate and actively ignored her the rest of evening including not refilling her beverage as she sat there while we ate.

At no point did he apologize or try to resolve the problem therefore we didn't even bother to mention the problem with our meal. The friend who only ordered soup didn't have any problems so one...

Foods ok.. Burned our steaks though. Okay after 4 times of getting our food wrong I give up! This last time I decided to order something different so that maybe they wouldn't mess it up. That was a mistake all the dishes in that category had a breakdown of what all was in the dish. Of course the one I ordered had bell peppers and onions in it that was not listed on the menu! I hate bell peppers and got a big mouthful! I tried to give this place chance after chance because they were the first Mexican restaurant in town. From here on out I will be switching to Maria's restaurant they serve excellent Mexican food there and have never gotten my meal wrong! I do not recommend to go orders with this restaurant because they will get it wrong every time! The food is decent but I suggest you eat at the restaurant so that you can return your food for the correct food! Although they offered another free dish I will not be accepting it. I don’t usually give a 5/5 for Mexican food because I am Mexican and cook the same foods at home. However, this is hands down the best Mexican food I’ve ever gotten at a restaurant. I visited today on Mother’s Day one of the busiest days of the year and it was perfect. The staff was prompt and seemed happy to be there even though it was extremely busy. I came in with my 3 kids and the staff gave them coloring pages and the table always had chips and salsa on it. Our waiters were friendly and the food was hot! I make tamales 3 times a year and today I have to say their tamales put me to shame! They were the absolute best tamales I’ve ever had! Calling my dad when I left there to let him know what I had eaten he has decided to come visit and try this place out. We’re excited to find a new place to eat and enjoy the company.
