Had an excellent lunch last Saturday at Chepa's Mexican Grill at their new location in McKinney at Stacy & Alma. We went on opening day and were actually their 2nd ever customers at the new place, but the service was excellent! These guys are experienced restauranteurs so I’m not surprised that there were no service issues on the first day!
We started with their queso which might be my favorite queso anywhere (definitely top 3)!! We got a kids quesadilla, quesabirria tacos, cheese enchiladas and pollo a la crema. Everyone was a member of the clean plate club & there were no leftovers!
The birria tacos (did miss the consommé) were very good and better than most (comes with 3 to an order and onions & cilantro on the side, but I didn’t get a pic before my 13 yr old devoured the first taco 😅). If you like sour cream chicken enchiladas, then you’ll love the Pollo a la crema. The seasoned, grilled chicken had the perfect amount of char which led to awesome bites of char mixed with sour cream and roasted Monterey Jack cheese. Delicious! 😋
My 70yr old uncle exclusively orders cheese enchiladas at Mexican food restaurants. And being a life long Texan, he’s eaten A LOT of cheese enchiladas in his lifetime. He’s also very reserved and rarely comments about food one way or the other. He said the cheese enchilada were “the best he’d ever had” and ate them so fast I couldn’t get a picture! High praise indeed!
We were also surprised at how good the French fries are, especially when dipped in their queso!
Also enjoyed their $3 mimosas on Saturday and Sunday!!
Great experience, and we’re really excited to have a Chepa’s right down the road!! We will be...
Read moreI finally decided to check out the new Chepas McKinney location by ordering takeout. My measuring stick meal at a tex mex restaurant is chicken fajitas so that's what I ordered.
The service was great throughout and this means a lot to me. The fajitas, however, were middle of the road. I'm not sure if it's Chepa's style but the chicken wasn't all sliced up. The bell peppers weren't sliced up either. I found myself manually breaking apart the chicken and setting the bell peppers aside because I didn't have a suitable knife to cut them up. There were plenty of onions, however. The tortillas were interesting in that I received 2 corn tortillas and 2 flour tortillas. I'm just not a fan of flour tortillas with my fajitas. I ran out or tortillas while half of the chicken was still left and i was fortunate to have some store bought tortillas at home to use. The side of pico, cheese, sour cream, and guacamole were done well, but the sides of refried beans and rice were nothing to get excited about. Aside from all that, the meal came with a bag of cheap tortilla chips and some salsa.
All in all, it was a good value, though. The cost was set right at the standard market rate and you get plenty of food for that. I wouldn't order the fajitas again simply because I can get better elsewhere. I'll return to Chepa's another day to try out a new dish but giving it a respectable 3 out of 5...
Read moreWent by this place today for the first time. It was quiet because it was in the afternoon. A little late for lunch and a little early for dinner. There wasn't anyone at the bar or on the patio but there were a few tables of people inside. My first impression was that it seemed clean and organized. The young girl at the front (I think her name was Sherlyn?) greeted me as soon as I walked in and was very nice. I told her I would be ordering something to go and she gave me a menu. I ordered the Lola's Tacos with beef. While I was waiting I went to use the ladies room and it was very clean which is always a bonus. As I waited for my order, I was listening to a server describing some of the dishes to a table and he sounded very friendly and knowledgeable when it came to the menu. The tacos have a good amount of meat on them and I really liked the pico de gallo. The meal came with rice, bean soup and 2 sauces/salsas. It also came with a bag of tortilla chips. Everything was really good. If I had to say anything negative it would just be that the chips needed salt, it didn't taste like they had been salted at all. And, it would have been nice to get a couple of slices of lime with the tacos. But I feel like if you dined in, that might not be an issue. I really enjoyed everything though. From the service to the cleanliness to the food. I...
