Shanghai Moon 1987 — Restaurant in Medford

Despite all the apparent bad reviews from past folks I found this place to be both exciting, enjoyable, and very tasty. It is true that Asia Palace is smaller, and comes across as "bare-bones" when you first find it; but this is because it is family operated and not a franchise chain. I meet the owner and his wife, both of who are very nice. While the simplicity makes it seem smaller, the quality of the food was top notch. Indeed I have regularly been ordering here instead of PFChangs or the other bigger chains. Finally their Sushi is top notchm, the owner himself having studied the Art of Sushi Making Osaka, Japan.

Overall I'd give this place a 4.5, and only deduct points due to the smaller menu. However do not let this fool you, it really is a diamond in the rough, and is definitly worth at least...

We enjoyed our dinner at Shanghai Moon. It was around 6:15 PM on. Monday. Not particularly crowded. We were seated immediately, Waters and beverages were served quickly. I can recommend our appetizers - scallion pancakes and egg rolls.

Our entrees were all good- crispy sesame shrimp and sweet sour chicken were both served with white rice. We also had the pineapple fried rice, as well as a poo poo platter. The only criticism was that the batter on the sweet and sour chicken was a bit too heavy.

For all 4 of us, the bill was approximately $105 before tip.

There is bar seating, and they do serve cocktails (we did not indulge). There are also plenty of booths.

So far I’ve only ever order takeout, but the food is incredible. I’ve been on the hunt for good Chinese food for many years now, and Shanghai moon is hands down my favorite place to order Chinese food from! My favorite thing on the menu would have to be the steamed wontons with peanut sesame sauce. If I could order this sauce by the gallon I would. It’s so delicious. 2 things I typically judge Chinese food restaurants on are the egg rolls and the roast pork lo mein, and Shanghai moon has hit the mark on both of those!!
