For a little over a year now, people have been telling me “You got to try Rhodes Diner over in Medina”. So last night I took the family on a road trip for an early dinner. I must say … I now know what everyone is talking about. This quaint little home town diner was awesome. First of all, no matter how hard a restaurant works to come across as unique or special, if the food isn’t good it is all for nothing. People get the food not the atmosphere. Rhodes Diner in Medina GETS that!!! I had the patty melt and onion rings. Both were excellent. Everyone else in my family seemed to really enjoy their food as well. The deserts looked awesome. I was just too full to try them. The place has a fun atmosphere that feels kinda old fashion with a mix of today. I love that they have the old building (but have remodeled it), the old tables and booths, but they were using Ipads to take orders and accepted Google pay! The old transit windows along the ceiling were very cool. There is only thing about the atmosphere that I would suggest needs improving. The booths looked great but are worn out and very uncomfortable. I suggest sitting at a table. Rhodes Dinner defiantly has a home town feel. After our meal we stepped outside to find the local home town Christmas parade coming down the street. Check out my photos. It was a lot of fun. My family and I will be back. The service was okay. The server was not very busy but still seemed very distracted. My wife ordered then changed her mind and she had to get a manager to make the change. And when I went to pay there was no one at the cash register. They did come out and it was only a minute or so. But it was long enough for me to wonder if I needed to find my waitress and pay her. All minor issues that were more than made up for by the general friendliness of the staff and locals. I most likely caught them on a night where they were out of sorts due to the local parade. In any case, I will be back. Rhodes diner seems to be a hidden gem in West Tennessee. Come...
Read moreMy wife & I dropped in to Rhodes Family Diner yesterday before dinner around 4:15pm on Thu, July 27th. Our server was a young man whose name we cannot recall who greeted us a few seconds after we were seated. Granted for the early hour only two other patrons were seated when we arrived.
Our server took our drink orders & returned promptly with our waters. He asked if we were ready to order or did we need a few minutes to decide. We asked for a few more minutes. After we had decided & put the menus aside our server returned promptly to take our order.
We ordered a Philly steak sandwich, a patty melt, and a basket of freshly handmade onion rings. Our server warned us that basket was a very large order and we had the options of a side order (about half the size of a basket) if we wanted less. We knew that we would have leftovers of the sandwiches so we opted for the basket.
We were not disappointed. The sandwiches were fresh, hot & delicious. The onion rings were huge and awesome. Our server was attentive & never let our glasses run dry. To top it all off we ordered a piece of salted caramel pecan cake to go. It was fabulous when we ate it at home later.
I was amazed that all of this great food & service was given in spite of the kitchen remodel yesterday morning & the time of day we arrived. I’m sure the kitchen was still working out kinks to become more efficient & effective. Sometimes patronizing a business during a slow period results in poor customer service since the staff is not at peak working speed & the peak load staff has not arrived yet. This says a lot about the management & staff. They...
Read moreNormally because the food is good and reasonably priced I'd give this place 4 stars. On 07/14/19 I made two visits...one for lunch and one for dinner. Here's why it gets two: I watched a boy (James and the only reason I know is because his name was on our ticket as our server) get harassed by the other staff. Harassment enough to put in his two weeks notice. I even saw the owner of the establishment laughing at him. When I went to pay the first time, the lady looked around me at my table and asked me was this correct because there's only three people and there was 4 meals and I told her I ordered the dinner salad to go with my burger. Her response was " That's a lot of food." I bit my tongue and left but I really wanted to throat punch that judgmental heifer. The second trip the food was good...waitress not as on her game but 🤷🏻♀️...whatever. I see that James was still there. I told him I was sorry those girls were harassing him earlier and he was an excellent waiter. I went to pay and learned while paying that the boy is putting in his two weeks notice (and not just walking out the door) because he's being bullied and now I realize the owner knows and doesn't care. My respect dropped to nothing. Now the man that handles the place at night is top notch and when I asked for menus for my airbnb he gave me a bunch of 20% off for my customers to use. Seriously doubt I'll use them though if the owner allows such among his...
