Holy Rainbow Roll, Batman! Yet another Thai/Japanese combo hash house was staring at me from my random name generator. I have to fix this; all I'm getting lately are these places and Tex-Mex joints. This time, I was heading OTB to sample the fares offered at Thai Koji off of N. Wickham Rd. in Melbourne, FL.
After being seated, handed a menu and assured my server would be right with me, I took a few pictures of the place and got ready to snap some of the menu. When I opened it, much to my surprise, I had committed a deterrational act. In so doing, I uncovered a leader in the Thai/Japanese cohort. As previously mentioned, I have a relative currently residing in Thailand. They have assured me on numerous occasions that two things you never find in a restaurant there are chopsticks and sushi. This place knew that and had two DISTINCT menus: Japanese and Thai, leaving little room for discussion. Am was our waiter for the meal and other waitstaff should take lessons from this man. He was exceptional in every category in which a server can be ranked. Well done, Good Sir!
I asked Am for some Chicken Satay, Pad Kra Pow Stir Fry w/minced pork and a Lobster Roll. Sitting back and taking in the chill vibe, I wasn't too long before Am was seen returning with my feastage. I quickly dug in as the fusillade of fabulous fragrances ambushed my olfactory nerves.
The Chicken Satay consisted of huge pieces of breast meat skewered, grilled to perfection and paired with a delicious Thai peanut sauce. The cucumber salad served on the side was fresh, crisp and delightful, consisting of freshly sliced and chopped cucumber, tomatoes and red pepper in a delicious dressing of Thai flavors.
Next up was the Pork Pad Kra Pow Stir fry and this was also wonderful. The minced pork was tender, the rice was perfectly steamed and the side spring roll was a treat to my taste buds. The complex flavors in the Pad Kra Pow were executed flawlessly and stimulated my palate as only correctly prepared Thai food can.
Moving on to the final item to be tasted on this foray into the sea of Thai/Japanese combo places, I direct your attention to the Lobster Roll. First, please take a peek at the picture of said roll. It is certainly a work of art to the discerning eye. With krab inside, fresh tuna on top and a wonderful spicy sauce drizzled to top it off, it looked far better than it tasted. I am fairly sure I got the last Lobster tail in the freezer as it came off slightly freezer-burned. If it weren't for that tiny, albeit important detail, this would have been a 5-star meal.

Read moreI would give them 3.5 stars but google doesn't work that way. To begin, we waited 30 minutes with the house packed about a quarter way full. Because I had never been here before, my table sampled the Thai spring rolls, the gyoza, and the shumai. The Thai spring rolls were okay, I liked the dipping sauce. The flavor gave me the indication that they were frozen. The gyoza was again, just okay. What really makes a gyoza great is the dipping sauce, and it was extremely vinegar-y.
The shumai was just a tad mushy, same dipping sauce situation. I also ordered the wonton soup, the flavor was a bit off and the wontons were slimy and falling apart. I ordered the chicken pad thai with vegetables. The balance for a pad thai is equal parts of sweet and savory, this pad thai was good in it's own right but extremely sweet. I tried adding lime, which made it taste like limeade. On a positive note, they added plenty of whole and ground peanuts, giving it an excellent texture.
The chicken was also of a good quality. The sushi one of my party members ordered was quite good. As the meal progressed the service improved, and we were delighted to see that we got ice cream on the house. The flavors were green tea and red bean. Both were on the brand of vanilla and their respective flavors were very inoffensive but definitely there , a great end to that meal.
To conclude, I'm not crazy about the food, it's alright. The prices are a little too high for the kind of food that they're putting out, and we waited in total about an hour for everything. But the ice cream at the end was definitely a crowd pleaser, and if you have a friend or family member who's just getting warmed up to Asian food, this would be...
Read moreI'm not sure how they got such high ratings but never again. We ordered the fresh spring rolls as well as the fried one's as appetizers. They were ok at best, that's being generous. Tried asking our waitress about the sauces but couldn't understand her, which was incredibly frustrating.
I ordered quail egg sashimi, they were out of stock. So I just ordered miso soup and salad with the ginger dressing. You can't really go too terribly wrong with that.
My daughter ordered the beef noodle soup. They charge $11.95 for a broth that has so much cinnamon in it it's absurd and sliced beef that lacks flavor and is so tough it could be beef jerky. The additions that come with it are basil and not so fresh bean sprouts. Every other Thai restaurant we've ever been to gives you a bowl with basil, thyme, fresh bean sprouts, lemon/lime and sliced jalepeno peppers. She asked for it to be replaced which they did after the waitress questioned her as to why she didn't like it and if she had ever had pad Thai before which is what she requested in place of.
The pad thai is mediocre in comparison to other's we've had in Brevard. Noodles were under cooked and the flavor was bland.
I am always hesitant to leave negative reviews because I fully understand that circumstances change daily which affect customer service as well as product quality however in this case, it's warranted.
Overall review- Quality/Flavor- Bland or overpowering across the board. Undercooked noodles. Prices- Way overpriced considering the quality and quantity of product's.
We were very disappointed and cannot with good conscience recommend...
