Mother's Pizza — Restaurant in Melrose

Years ago, I was told to try this place by a former coworker, and I just never made it to it until today! My mom and I stopped in for a snack because we drove by it. We got a small cheese pizza to split. When we arrived in the two men at the counter were super friendly. They greeted us right away and we sat inside to eat. There were a few customers already inside eating too and they seemed to know the guys who worked there well. We tried the pizza, and it was excellent! I love Greek style pizza and this was it. Firm, no flop, cheesy and crunchy crust. The men were pleased to hear it was our first time and we loved it. A customer chimed in about how he has been going there for over 20 years and another customer talked about how she is a regular. You do not see places like that anymore! I will definitely be back and give this place...

I get the sense that these guys are a community pillar, which I think explains the high ratings. Walking in, I wanted to love this joint - really cool looking guys behind the counter doing honest work; however, I think an overall rating of 3.5 stars would be more appropriate to reflect the quality of the food and how I felt about spending my money here. The pizza was uninspired... underwhelming, really. The crust especially let us down. The wings were sub-par. It looks like the cheese steak is good from other reviews, but I don't see myself returning. Two stars - there is so much better pizza in town for the same price, there's no reason for Mother's to hold the highest...

I've lived on the Melrose/Stoneham line for many years ago have never eaten here before. I got a small steak and cheese with extra cheese. Delicious!! It's pretty big for a small. They brought it right to my table. This place has been here for 44 years, wow! Their prices are excellent too! I will definitely be coming back again. While it slowed down a bit, I got to talk to an employee for 10 to 15 minutes. He was really nice. They know their regulars and are very personable. Come and try this place. You will not be...
