Bedrock Eats and Sweets is an all gluten free establishment offering super versions of items that are typically gluten-full, including waffles, French toast, pancakes, egg breakfasts and lunch. It’s a very casual environment…order at the cash register and then sit where you’d like in a room with an entire wall taken up by refrigerated cabinets selling all kinds of items you can take home to roll-your own.
I had the Banana and Peanut Butter Waffle (When in Memphis might as well eat like Elvis did…) I never would have guessed this was a gluten free waffle. It was delicious. The peanut butter was a subtle taste and I was impressed with the tangible waffle crisp. There is whey protein in waffles, so the regular batter is not vegan, but they also have a vegan version.
My wife had the Banana Bread French Toast. She said it tasted great but she was not a fan of the more eggy texture that comes with a lot of paleo baking. (This is more her preference than anything wrong with the dish.) She did think it was a bit rich and she couldn’t finish it.
No assessment of brunch is complete without commenting on the coffee…They have serve yourself drip coffee which was a bit fruity for my tastes. It was strong and bold which coffee should be (and often isn’t at standard breakfast places) and if you’re a fan of the more floral tasting coffees then you’ll probably like it.
My wife had a Bulletproof coffee made with Kerry Gold butter (grass fed!) and coconut oil. She liked the taste but found it had more of a stronger coffee taste than she would typically do if she were making it. (Just a preference thing here.)
The coffee station allows you to pull your own coffee in the mug they provide. Nothing beats coffee in a mug and we would’ve loved it if the Bulletproof coffee which they prepared behind the counter also came in a mug or at least they had asked (They brought it out in a paper cup). This was surprising as we thought a place that is obviously so conscious about health and ingredients in the food they served would also have a similar sensibility about using reusable serving items for people dining in. (The plates our dishes were served in were also disposable, though possibly compostable.) Taking care of the earth is akin to taking care of the body.
That having been said, if we lived in Memphis, we, no doubt, would be regulars at this place because of the delicious food prepared with our diet...
Read moreEverything was soooo delicious! 😃😋 And the service is very efficient! (Pretty cool set up) I had the Creme Brulé waffle 🧇. It was heavenly 😇 (Aaaah), like I had an outer body experience.. one of those, make you cry good or feel like floating good. Lbs.. It was that good. I also had an omelet 🥚 with bacon 🥓 and avocado 🥑. Sooo good (only thing is that the bacon wasn't cooked in the omelet. So it made eating it a bit hard. The nicely crisped, then crumbled bacon (yes, nonetheless still delicious😊) kept falling off my fork. And the fanned avocado half was perfectly ripened. Lastly, aside from a bottle of Tropicana juice, I had the sweet potato hash browns (one of our draws to the restaurant 😁). They'd remind you of potato pancakes and were pretty good! 😃
Thank you, Bedford, for existing (lbs... just typing what comes to mind .. and heart). It was a wonderful, culinary experience.. I hope you can establish one in the Chi, soon!!
Oh. We noticed there were a lot of bags packed/dated for the following day. Turns out they do, what do you call it, food prep meals w/ instructions and all that people order regularly in advance for the week.
Annnd my friend is a vegetarian. They had many options. She had the vegan waffles, potatoes, and a strawberry 🍓, pineapple 🍍 smoothie. She enjoyed all of them and was the first to see they should be on Chicago. (We'd be...

Memphis' FIRST paleo market and restaurant.
I've been waiting for this food pick up service to have an actual home so I could have more access to paleo-prepared meals.
BE&S started out where you would order your meals for the week online and then pick them up at a designated location. My pickup location was Yolos.
Now, you can just come here during business hours and get my paleo fix.
They have hot food prepared on the spot during specified hours or you can grab food to-go from their refrigerator all day.
You can also buy raw meats to prepare at home.
The restaurant owners say on their website, "There's enough bad stuff in the world, without your having to eat it too."
Nothing they make is processed, refined or modified. All the food is organic, local, grass-fed and/or free-range.
Paleo eaters say the goal is to eat meat, vegetables, nuts and berries like caveman times. They say that these days, people eat too many processed carbohydrates and dairy, foods that our bodies are apparently rejecting.
I am so glad Bedrock Eats & Sweets is launching this trend here in the Bluff City.
I plan to...
