Been going here since about 2006, in the last 10 months (maybe come fall 2021) they seem to be under new ownership - or at least that's what I try to justify the following concerns with.
The menu has shrunk down to a single page with breakfast on one side and the other meals on the back, they used to have various spaghettis (lasagna, goulash, alfredo, etc), chicken, steaks, roasts, soups, sides (fried green beans, onion rings, mozzarella sticks, fish sticks, cheese curds, cottage cheese, etc), and a number of other menu items that I never even tried because there was so much but now if you have lunch or dinner here all you have access to seems to be burgers/sandwiches, steak, salad, and maybe fish on fridays. The now VERY limited options make visiting more of a planned occasion, I'm more bound to visit Culver's or Burger King as they have more to choose from.
Service has changed just as drastically, one of the waitresses has been there for many years serving me and countless others extremely well - she's still there, hats off to her and her long appreciated service! - but the rest of the help had been replaced with individuals who show no interest in being there and speak poor English.
In our last & final visit we saw a small family sit next to us who were apparently regular customers, they talked to a waitress about how during their last visit they had no service within 20 minutes so they had to leave before being waited on. After this they received treatment from the whole staff and food at the same time we did (we sat down 7 minutes prior to them). None of this really bothered us but it was disappointing to see the entire staff give special treatment to 4 people at one table while blatantly ignoring the table next to them. Watched the staff wiz on over with coffee, dishes, sides, etc while we sat with bland burgers and an empty...
Read moreThree of us went to eat just now. The hostess/cashier couldn’t tell us how long a wait it would be. When we checked out and I told her that I wanted to just pay for mine, her answer was, “added on?” No...on the receipt I just handed you. Then our server had to come and use the calculator for the cashier to get the new totals for us. How do you have someone who can’t do basic addition and subtraction be the one who handles your cash? It was rather busy and our server looked like she was the busiest server in the restaurant. They had one guy who’s only job, apparently, was to push a bus cart back to the kitchen once every 3 minutes. He didn’t run food even though that was where the backups were happening. The “stuffed” French toast was okay but it was drowning in strawberry sauce. It’s hard to mess up French toast but... There was a sliced onion in between the two slices of the French toast (that constituted it being “stuffed”). The burger wasn’t good - not even medium rare. We will say that the French fries, cheese curds, and the waffle were good. Though, again, hard to mess those items up. Maybe when they aren’t busy they do a better job but we left unimpressed and would caution anyone going in...
Read moreI loved the Menomonie Family Restaurant. I grew up eating Gyro omelettes every Sunday after church until the place I went to closed. When I saw the menu at Menomonie Family Restaurant and saw they had a Gyro Omelette, I figured I’d give it a try. Why not. In a word, WOW! This was exactly the omelette I remember from my youth. To make it even greater, I asked the server for some hollandaise sauce, and she came back with a bowl of it. I put it on my omelette, I mixed it into my hashbrowns. I was in heaven for the 15 minutes I ate that meal. It was SO GOOD! I had tears while I was scraping my empty plate I was so sad my meal was over. It was perfect.
The pancakes are large and delicious also. Everything my family got they loved.
Personally, I’ll be back sooner than later. I have no real reason to go to Menomonie. But now that I know about the Gyro omelette here, I’ll certainly be back. Thanks for the wonderful breakfast.
